Main purpose of the job

To implement cost-effective and safe plant protection approaches and protect field crops and tropical fruits from economical pests to ensure higher productivity and quality of mandate crops.

Main responsibilities

• Inspect and identify economic pest species related problem of crops and plantations that has to be removed
• Apply appropriate control measures by tackling the source of the problem
• Plans and requests of necessary agro-chemicals required to tackle pests on mandated crops timely
• Supervise pest or weed control operations including locating and identifying pests or weeds, selecting chemicals and application methods, a scheduling application, and training operators
• Arranges and accomplish spray or release natural and chemical solutions or gases to remove the pests on the field and storage facilities
• Analyze all pest scouting data and plans the pest control spraying operations timely as per calculated specific pest threshold levels
• Conducts demonstrations or investigations in pest prevalence of mandate crop problems
• Arranges training to scouts, foremen, and assistant foremen on pest assessment, threshold levels, epidemiology of pests, control measures, spraying techniques related to mandate crops, and management of soil
• Controls and ensures the protection of buildings and surrounding areas from pest infestation
• Plans with agronomists the removal of weeds and pests from the cultivated areas on time
• Records and reports the pest status on farms and control measures taken to the manager

Job Requirements

Knowledge, skills, and experience required

• BSc Degree in Plant protection, Agronomy, and related fields
• At least 5 years practical work experience in commercial farms
• Excellent knowledge of pesticides and their compatibility to mandate crops
• Physically fit to work in farm fields for extended periods
• Excellent report writing and communication skills
• Basic IT literacy skills
• Excellent theoretical knowledge and practical skill on pests, protection methods, pest threshold, and other farm technologies
• Certification on special protection methods and applications is an added advantage
