Logistic Specialist

GIZ-Internal/External Vacancy Re-Announcement #189/2021

Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM+)

The Integrated187024 Soil Fertility Management Project (ISFM+) is part of a Global Soil Protection and Rehabilitation Programe of the special initiative ‘’One World- No Hunger (SEWOH).’’ The project contributes to improving soil health and productivity in the Ethiopian highlands. The project supports federal and regional partners about the establishment of a sustainable lime supply mechanism for the rehabilitation of 3.5 million ha of acid land.

 This position is partially seconded (80% of staff time) to the Agriculture Inputs and Marketing Directorate of the MoA. The staff will build the capacity of the Directorate to facilitate the establishment of a commercial lime supply chain at federal and regional levels. 

 Responsibilities

  • Support the Input and Marketing Directorate of the MoA to establish, coordinate and monitor the establishment of a commercial lime supply chain in the highlands of Ethiopia  
  • Build the capacity of the Directorate and regional Bureau of Agriculture to sustainably coordinate and monitor the newly established lime supply chain.  

Tasks

At the Agriculture Inputs and Marketing Directorate / MoA

  • Supporting the co-ordination, planning, and execution, and monitoring and evaluation of lime supply chain operations.
  • Support the logistics team MoA and line offices to plan and execute and monitor lime supply
  • Build the capacity of the Directorate and regional BoA to sustainably build and coordinate the lime supply chain
  • Plan warehouses and distribution centers for efficiency in both operations and capacity
  • Organize transportation activities, including storage of lime, managing information accrued from point of origin to delivery, orchestrating transportation movements, and arranging for services as necessary
  • Coordinate and track movement of the lime through logistic pathways
  • Execute logistics plan to move products and packages to reach destinations on schedule
  • Maintains quality throughout the logistic processes
  • Compile regular reports and communicate key findings to the appropriate agencies
  • Closely interact and work with the Agricultural Inputs and Marketing Directorate / MoA
  • Perform other assignments as required

 At the ISFM+ Project / GIZ

The adviser will work in close coordination with ISFM+ federal- and regional-level staff

  • Liaise between the ISFM+ project and the Agricultural Inputs and Marketing Directorate of the MoA
  • Support the piloting of lime supply and retailing through the private sector
  • Assess opportunities for a new Develop-Public-Private Partnership (DeveloPPP) project, involving commercial lime producers and retailers and other actors, as appropriate
  • Facilitate relevant trainings for the logistics team of the Directorate and the regional BoA 
  • Represent GIZ-ISFM+ in relevant events
  • Closely interact and work with GIZ – ISFM+ project staff
  •  Perform other assignments as required

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • MA in Business administration, Business management, supply chain management, agricultural economics, rural development or related fields with agriculture background is preferred.

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the areas of agricultural input supply administration and management in Ethiopia, preferably in the private sector
  • Previous experience on logistics coordination for agricultural inputs in Ethiopia.
  • Experience in lime supply chain is a plus.
  • Experience in crop science
