DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLE

The OTP/SC nurse is expected to conduct activities and has end responsibility for:

  • Plan and implement OTP/SC activities as outlined in the protocol to achieve objectives of the project
  • Throughout the project implementation, work with and ensure transfer of capacity to HEWs and HWs in each health posts and SCs of target woredas. 
  • Ensure that the HEWs and HWs provide quality SAM case management services to children under five year in accordance with the MoH and SPHERE standards. 
  • Ensure each and every admitted child receives adequate and quality medical and nutritional care through existing resources. 
  • Ensure the health post is always and at all times adequately equipped and supplied with the necessary nutritional and medical requirements - Plumpy'nut, Vitamin A, routine drugs, nutritional equipment, nutritional/medical stationeries, etc. 
  • Assist HEWs and HWs in the planning and promotion of awareness creation on health and nutrition key messages dissemination in the community.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

This should include a series of brief statements that define the end results required. E.g. drive, contribute, identify, manage, responsible for, advise/coach, build, develop, provide, conduct, oversee, establish, participate etc.

Statements should ideally be worded so that they will lead to thoughts of measurement. For example, it is better to state something like "achieve maintenance standards" than "undertake maintenance". The former leads to a measure against the maintenance standards.]

The post holder is held accountable for the following specific deliverables:

  • For the coordination of the overall CMAM particularly TFP services within the operational area where community access for quality services 
  • Train and support the HEWs in severe acute malnutrition case management and follow-up (e.g., referral to SC and TSFP) according to national/international guidelines. 
  • Support community-based volunteers (FDAs) for the implementation of the community component of the project (OTP/SC). 
  • Participate in the organization and delivery of nutritional trainings for health worker and HEWs in the target Woreda.
  • Organize quality registration, recording and documentation of patient-related data in the OTP and SC according to national protocol thereby ensuring accurate data collection and reporting to worded health office and PIE's project office according to approved formats. 
  • Ensure that cross cutting issues (disability, gender, HIV & AIDS and Gender) are mainstreamed in all levels of team activities. 
  • Participate in the conduct of nutritional studies and surveys in the woreda.  
  • Carryout any other relevant duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor. 
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Contract Duration : Six months with possibility of extension 

Job Requirements

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

This should include clear levels of technical expertise and skills that support our work at national, international, and global level.] 

Essential

  • Nursing diploma from a recognized health colleges
  • Minimum two year experience with INGO/NGO of Infant and young Child Feeding practices /treatment of malnourished children in nutrition program (OTP/SC) implementation – case definition and care, clinical management, OTP/SC management, data collection and compilation, working with counterpart for lasting intervention, training of health workers, etc
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English and Amharic
  • High commitment to work with pastoral communities in remote and challenging environments

Desirable

  • Knowledge of good local language and experience on pastoral community based project intervention (Emergency Nutrition focused) is an advantageous
  • Work experience in Health Service Extension Program is an asset
