BACKGROUND

Wetlands International is dedicated to safeguarding and restoring wetlands for people and nature. We are driven by the knowledge that safeguarding and restoring wetlands is urgent and vital for water security, biodiversity, climate regulation, sustainable development and human health. Wetlands International is legally registered international NGO operating projects in Oromia and Somali region. 

Wetlands International (WI), in collaboration with EWNHS, EWCA, HoAREC/N and BDA/RVLBDO, has been implementing the IKI-funded CRF “Climate Resilient Site Network in the African-Eurasian flyway” project (2016-2021). 

Project Name: Climate Resilient Site Network in the African-Eurasian flyway”(CRF) 

Project goal: To guide the development of a coherent and climate resilient network of protected or otherwise managed areas that are internationally important for the conservation of migratory waterbirds in the African-Eurasian flyway and thereby contributing to the implementation of the relevant resolutions of the African-Eurasian Waterbird Agreement.

Project site in Ethiopia: Abijata-Shalla Lakes National Park and the Central Rift Valley (CRV)

 The main project activities delivered by the CRF project include, among others, restoration (soil and water conservation), area closure, piloting of drip irrigation, livelihood diversification, water quality monitoring, capacity development and dialogues.

 Objectives of the Video Documentary Assignment/Consultancy Assignment

Goal of the short video documentary: Documentation of the achievements, impacts and lessons of the CRF Project

Target Audience: Donors, global conventions, national and regional organizations, governments, research institutions and the public.

Estimated period: December 2021

  •  Preparatory work: Nov 25- 26
  • Actual field work (video shooting): December 6-11, 2021
  • Dec 20: Draft video submission by the client
  • Dec 21-23; Review and feedback provided to the Client
  •  Dec 23/24-26: Editing work by the Client
  • Dec 27:Submission of final revised videos to WI: 

Scope and expectations

The assignment will combine interviews, imageries and vide shooting. Interviews may be conducted in Ziway/Batu, Hawassa, Addis Ababa and the field, as deemed necessary.

The video documentary work will focus on CRF project sites in Abijata Shalla Lakes National Park and in the Central Rift Valley where partners have ongoing

The work will include 3 separately developed documentaries:

  • 2 minutes teaser video intended to reach out with main message, generate buzz and gain the interest of potential audiences/viewers.
  •  5 minutes video reaching out with the main message, highlighting the core achievements and impacts of the project
  •  20’ video reaching out with the project message and addressing the main activities, achievements, impacts and lessons from the project.

Job Requirements

Required Expertise and qualifications

  • The assignment will require experienced, competent professional team with specific experience on environmental journalism, with demonstrated experience in related assignments/documentaries.
