Background

Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University, works to improve the health of women and families in limited-resource settings worldwide through strengthening the capacities of local institutions, systems, and facilitate in the health sector. Jhpiego is registered as International Non-Governmental Organization (iNGO) to operate in Ethiopia since 2003.

Jhpiego seeks an HIV/AIDS Subject Matter Expert to support development of a new project in Ethiopia through a two-month consultancy. The HIV/AIDS consultant will complete the following tasks:

  1. Participate in the design, planning, development and review of the technical proposal.
  2. Contribute context-specific technical writing related to the full range of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment in Ethiopia
  3. Work with Jhpiego staff to suggest and link potential international and local partners for collaboration on the project
  4. Assist Jhpiego in locating additional key content technical experts
  5. Establish linkages to key stakeholders in target geographic areas 

Job Requirements

  • A clinical degree in medicine, nursing, pharmacy or other relevant field + advanced degree in infectious diseases, public health, health administration, epidemiology, international health or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience implementing in HIV care and treatment; HIV testing services and linkage to care; HIV prevention; behavior change for HIV prevention
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of the healthcare system in Ethiopia, particularly the public health system and 5+ years of experience working to support HIV efforts in the country
  • Demonstrated understanding of current HIV/AIDs strategic direction and technical guidance
  • Demonstrated capabilities in capacity building at the organizational and individual levels, and experience working effectively with the government of Ethiopia
  • Skilled in at least two or more of the following technical areas: clinical care of PLHIV; disease surveillance (collection, analysis, and/or interpretation of data) program evaluation; using data for decision making; strengthening service delivery projects; training; performance and quality improvement; and monitoring and evaluation
  • Familiarity with PEPFAR’s administrative, management and reporting procedures and systems
  • Excellent diplomacy skills and a proven ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and professional relationships with donors, host-country counterparts and representatives from other key stakeholders such as NGOs, CSOs, and the private sector
  • Excellent verbal, written interpersonal and presentation skills in the English language
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel nationally to project sites
