Job Description

Background

Private sector-led development can fuel sustainable and inclusive growth in emerging economies. Investors can accelerate the development process by bringing in new expertise, technologies, and financial resources. TRAIDE Ethiopia has been set-up to attract Dutch investments and to stimulate such sustainable investments from the Netherlands. TRAIDE Ethiopia is a program carried out by the Netherlands TRAIDE Foundation, and works closely together with the Ethiopia-Netherlands Business Association (ENLBA).

The main objective of TRAIDE Ethiopia therefore is to increase sustainable trade and investments from the Netherlands. Its three main objectives are to (1) Increase Dutch investments in and trade with Ethiopia, (2) improve the business climate and enabling environment and (3) ensure investments are implemented in a socially and environmentally responsible way. We provide tailored support to Dutch companies and thereby contribute to sustainable private sector development. The program aims to promote a model of high quality and high investment where trade can contribute to development objectives. This leads to a larger and diverse investment portfolio from the Netherlands in Ethiopia, and simultaneously contributes to sustainable sector development in Ethiopia.

The TRAIDE program officially started in April 2021 and we are now looking for a Marketing and Communications Officer. His/her role is crucial for communicating about Ethiopia as a high-potential investment location for Dutch companies

Position

The Marketing and Communications Officer will work with the team to document, communicate, market, and promote the activities of TRAIDE, the ENLBA, and the Dutch private sector in Ethiopia. S/he will join the TRAIDE team during their activities and company visits. S/he will plan, document material and write/design outputs that will communicate Ethiopia as a high-potential investment location of (Dutch) companies.

Position within the organization

The Marketing and Communications Officer will work in the TRAIDE office in Ethiopia. S/he will work as part of the TRAIDE team and will work closely with the ENLBA and Dutch companies. S/he will continuously liaise with the (intern)national team in person, via (Skype) calls, WhatsApp and e-mails. The team will assist the candidate with his/her daily tasks and will provide relevant input for his/her job. The Marketing and Communications Officer will be contracted by RSLNC PLC 1 . This company is the local subsidiary of the Dutch Resilience B.V. and will host employees for the TRAIDE foundation.

Tasks and activities

The TRAIDE Foundation is looking for a creative, ambitious, independent, and assertive candidate to cover the position of Marketing and Communications Officer. S/he will fulfil several activities. These include – but are not limited to – the following:

  • Join and document Dutch company visits
  • Document activities of TRAIDE, ENLBA, and Dutch companies through picture and/or video
  • Develop consistent visual material on the activities of TRAIDE, the ENLBA, and Dutch companies
  • Liaise with (Dutch) editors to design consistent material and output
  • (Co)develop annual video reports presenting objectives, activities, and achievements of the TRAIDE program
  • Develop company profiles for Dutch companies (e.g., on dairy, horticulture, floriculture, CSR)
  • Draft and co-author (news) messages for the TRAIDE website and LinkedIn

Job Requirements

The candidate is expected to be able to showcase his/her experience through a portfolio. The candidate needs to be able to autonomously work on shaping a visual/recognizable online presence for the TRAIDE program and Dutch companies.

The candidate needs to:

  • BA degree in any related fields
  • Be creative, proactive, and flexible
  • Take responsibility and commit to providing excellent quality output
  • Be able to develop high-quality, consistent visual material
  • Have strong communication and writing skills both in Amharic and English
  • Be a team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Have some knowledge on business is a plus
  • Some project management skills and experience is a plus
