About the Country Program in Ethiopia
Action Against Hunger has been operational in Ethiopia since 1984 responding to both chronic and acute needs through a multi-sectoral strategy where nutrition, Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH, and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support activities are integrated to have a meaningful impact on people’s resilience. Action Against Hunger currently operates in 5 different regions (Oromia, Somali, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, and Gambella) with a portfolio of 20m USD/year of emergency, resilience building, research, and innovation programs. We have a country team of around 600 staff in 17 regional and satellite offices. Our main donors in Ethiopia in 2020/2021 are BHA, ECHO, Europaid, UNHCR, UNICEF, GFFO, BPRM, SIDA, EHF, WFP, CIAA, and others.
Summary of position
The Deputy MEAL TA will be supervising the country MEAL team to provide technical assistance in all monitoring, evaluation, accountability, documentation, and knowledge management for all projects, which are implemented by Action Against Hunger Ethiopian Mission. The Deputy MEAL TA will coordinate the regular implementation and reporting of both narrative and quantitative Activity Progress Reporting (APR) for all projects. S/he will be responsible for all monthly APR follow-up and compilation. S/he will track Action Against Hunger key indicators and report on the progress to relevant program Technical advisors and MEAL TA. S/he will work closely with field program staff and MEAL Specialists to ensure success stories, best practices, and experiences from all projects are carried out into the monitoring systems, shared for the wider Action Against Hunger community, and documented on No Hunger Forum. With support from the MEAL TA, the Deputy MEAL TA will support the timely initiation of assessment/surveys/PDMs, data collectors training, data collection, and submission of reports as well as a collection of pictures, success stories, and lessons learned of projects. The Deputy MEAL TA will also support in designing mobile data collection forms using Kobo; train data collectors; ensure the quality of field data collection; data analysis; and conduct regular field monitoring visits to provide onsite support for data collectors, program staff, and MEAL specialists. The Deputy MEAL TA will support roll outing of the MEAL and Accountability guideline, SoPs, and standard tools. The Deputy MEAL TA will capacitate the MEAL specialists in data management, analysis, and report writing. S/he will spend 30-40% of her/his time in the field offices supporting the MEAL specialists, assessments, and surveys.
