Job Description

Purpose of the Job:

Provide overall support in day to day activities of the function related to socio-economic rights.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in investigation of cases of human rights violations involving socio-economic rights;
  • Support in mainstreaming of socio-economic rights as relevant in other EHRC’s activities and programming;
  • Support research and compile data to assist the  development new guidelines, policies and laws relevant to socio-economic rights;
  • Support the drafting various human rights reports, communications, briefing notes, statement or other products;
  • Support in following up on recommendations forwarded by EHRC and deliver statistics and trend reports as required;
  • Support team members in maintaining contacts with technical staff of various partner institutions relevant for the promotion and protection of socio-economic rights;
  • Support in mapping of stakeholders and set up referral system to provide support to victims of human rights violation ;
  • Assist in conducting capacity-building activities on relevant human rights and in developing and implementing training programs;
  • Support on awareness raising and campaigns on socio-economic rights to ensure adherence to national and international human rights standards and guidelines;
  • Perform additional assignments and delegations given by the Director.
  • Assist in monitoring on selected institutions to assess whether their policies and procedures are in compliance with international and regional human rights standards that are relevant to socio-economic rights;

REPORT TO; Director, Socio-Economic Rights Department

DURATION; Open /Indefinite Contract

SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 16,515.00- ETB 19,670.00 plus ETB 6,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 1,500.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Master’s Degree (MA/LLM) in Human Rights Law, International Law or related public law
  • 2 years of relevant experience for LLB and 0 years of relevant experience for MA/LLM.
  • Computer literate. 
  • Knowledge of Amharic is required. Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous.
