Job Description

Purpose of the Job:

Conduct the day-to-day monitoring activities and assist in the development and implementation of research, advocacy and campaign strategies related to the promotion and protection of socio-economic rights.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular monitoring on public and private institutions to assess whether their policies, procedures and practice are in compliance with international and regional human rights standards applicable to socio-economic rights and produce reports with concrete remedial recommendations;
  • Support the undertaking of researches, studies and analyses to identify violations of socio-economic rights and legislative gas with concrete recommendations;
  • Conduct awareness raising campaigns on socio-economic rights to ensure adherence to national and international standards and guidelines;
  • Support advocacy for socio-economic rights through dialogues, forms, seminars, conferences and other channels and mediums;
  • Support in the development of human rights education on socio-economic rights;
  • Support in the investigation of complaints on the violation of socio-economic rights;
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to and/ or draft various human rights reports, communications, briefing notes, statement or other products;
  • Contribute to the development of annual plans of the Socio-Economic Rights Department in line with EHRC’s Strategic Plan and program priorities;
  • Establish and maintain collaboration/partnership with relevant stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society organizations, media, private sectors, development partners and other partners working on socio-economic rights;
  • Support in monitoring and evaluation projects on socio-economic rights against set objectives and indicators;
  • Keep the director informed with regular detailed and accurate reports on progress and hurdles of monitoring work and research activities;
  • Perform additional assignments given by the director;

DURATION; Open Contract

SALARY RANGE: Gross monthly salary of ETB 19,157.00- ETB 22,817.00 plus ETB 6,000.00 Housing allowance and ETB 1,500.00 Transport allowance, depending on candidates qualification, experience and earning history

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Law, Human Rights Law, International Law or related public law
  • 4 years of relevant experience for LL.B and 2 years of relevant experience for MA/LL.M
  • Knowledge of Amharic and English is required
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous
