Job Description

Relations with Others: Reports and is accountable to Head of Finance and Operation, liaison and close working relationships with other Finance and support team and Programme staff as well as Country Director.

Job purpose: The Finance Manager, work closely with the Head of Finance and Operation and Country Director, is responsible for taking a lead in managing and implementing HelpAge International's financial and administrative systems; Assist on financial monitoring and reporting; verify sub-contracting consultant contracts and Procurement contract procedures; verify financial documents/payments for completeness, accuracy and compliance; follow up on staff advances, reconciliations and timely settlement; close monthly account and reconcile account balances and prepare accounts for statutory audit on a timely manner following GAAP and IPSAS requirement etc.

Job Requirements

Educational background: 

  • Master’s in business administration (MBA), Finance and accounting, ACCA or related fields plus BA degree in accounting with at least 6-8 years of experience (2-3 of which is in supervision/ Managerial and people management role) or BA degree in accounting with at least 8-10 years of experience (2-3 of which is in senior operation supervision and people management role).

Note this position needs a person with a background of BA degree in accounting. 

  • System, project management and peoples management Experience: at least 2-3 years’ experience in supervision/ Managerial position, preferable in INGOs;
  • Past experience of managing and developing systems with other organizations; support in developing proposals; put in place financial policies and procedures; ensure that the existing tools are operating effectively and efficiently and helps in strengthening internal control system; strong communication, negotiation & representational skills and experience of managing & supporting partners; good understanding of donor and local regulations and compliance and managing staffs under his/her responsibility is required.

  • Work as a team in line with organizational priorities and has a drive for high quality work
  • Should have the ability to lead and work with others, communicate effectively and work under stressful environment
  • Having good analytical skill is a must and requires a person who is self-managed, committed, knowledgeable and confident

 Others: This post requires a person who can engage and demonstrate on data analysis and interpretation; understanding issues of older persons; willingness and interest to work with a partner focused approach; excellent English skill and being computer literate (word processors, spreadsheet, database, statistical packages, etc.) and its use are the requirements. Preferably good knowledge of SUN system and VISION.

The job required someone having excellent command of English and Amharic both written and oral, Knowledge of statutory requirements of the country and planning and organization skills.
