ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Buna Qela Charity Associational is a local, non-political, non-religious and not-for profit civil society organization, first licensed and registered in June 2017 and re-registered in July 2019 by the Agency for Civil Society Organizations of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopian (Registration Number 3804), as per the new Civil Society law (Proc. 1113/2019). Buna Qela was established by the owners and staff members of Kerchanshe Trading PLC, which the leading coffee producing and exporting company in Ethiopia.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Working under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Officer will primarily be responsible for planning, coordinating and administering Buna Qela exist programs as well as projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages all aspects of programs and administration, grant application/proposal review and processing, coordination of projects, program evaluation, prepare reports and other duties as needed;
  • Project coordination and partner collaboration to ensure timely communication, information sharing, and project implementation; identify opportunities for new program development and expansion;
  • Assist with the development of strategic partnerships; and with strategic development of the organization; conduct research, compile data and prepare reports for consideration and presentation to the Executive Director and Board of Directors;
  • Supervise staff, volunteers and other support personnel;
  • Assist with ongoing marketing of organization including but not limited to speaking engagements, monitoring and assisting with maintenance of the organization’s website as well as coordinating and assisting in the production of the organization’s monthly newsletter;
  • Manages, in consultation with the Resources Branch staff, the preparation of contracts and grant letters, travel arrangements, analysis of financial statements, adjustment of budgets and schedules, and project closures;
  • Attend Board, committee meetings or other meetings as requested; Prepares project completion reports; other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Duration of Initial Contract: One Year (with possibility of renewal)

Location/Duty Station: Addis Ababa with frequent field trip

Job Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Education-Master’s degree in development studies, rural development, agronomist, Business administration, project management and other social sciences or a related field

Experience:5 and above years of experience implementing or managing development and rural development projects;

  • Program management and/or program coordination experience required;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and ethically in settings with remote and rural
  • communities and with technical and administrative staff and consultants
  • Proven expertise facilitating collaborative work with diverse partners engaged in
  • complex projects; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with these partners and
  • colleagues and build strong professional relationships and networks;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Program management and event coordination; strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate various responsibilities and prioritize conflicting demands and deadlines;

  • Ability to work and effectively communicate across operations, program, and project teams/ability to work well in a team environment; and work efficiently independently and organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point; good writing, analytical, research and problem‐solving skills
  • Experience in proposal writing, or grant writing/fundraising; fluency in English and local language (Afan Oromo) is compulsory
