We are pleased to announce the vacancy for  Subject Matter Expert - Agriculture within Operations and Planning department in Enterprise Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Role Purpose

Reporting to HOD – Operations and Planning, the role holder responsibilities will be to set the directions for the organizations content strategy in respect of Agriculture: defining the overall strategy, designing and developing insightful content led value propositions, crafting the strategy to drive content acquisition and content adoption through strategic partnerships. The position holder will work closely and interface with key functions with in Enterprise Business, Consumer Business, Regulatory, Customer Operations, IT and Technology teams to ensure content strategy is implemented in alignment with overall business strategy, market needs and requirements. Become familiar with ‘in-house’ developed solutions such as Vodacom’s Mezzanine platform and Safaricom’s DigiFarm Kenya Ltd.  

DigiFarm Kenya LTD, a Safaricom subsidiary, is an integrated mobile platform for digital services targeting farmers. With a basic feature phone, farmers can access advisory services, market linkages, mechanization, inputs, input credits and crop insurance. Through the DigiFarm service, farmers can access a convenient, one-stop access to farmer payments, farmer credit scoring, quality farm inputs at discounted prices, input loans, learning content on farming as well as access to market. The SME Manager Ethiopia would have end-to-end accountability for implementing DigiFarm systems in Ethiopia, working with a complex set of partners internally and externally. They would also link with DigiFarm Kenya LTD team, shaping both strategy and implementation for local implementation of DigiFarm services in Ethiopia. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Liaises with, consults and advises the DigiFarm Kenya Team, Safaricom Ethiopia Senior Leadership,[Including Line Managers and close collaborators] to ensure high standards of both design and execution of DigiFarm Ethiopia Strategy
  • Works across functions and with the leadership team to ensure the development and implementation of DigiFarm services in Ethiopia, and a scalable path for commercial growth
  • Working with HoD Operations & Planning to identify and implement partnerships and breakthrough business models that deliver value for the business
  • The role will be focused on leading the development and execution DigiFarm Services in Ethiopia, implementing a scalable model for growth in Ethiopia. The role would also interface with Senior Regional and Federal Govt. officials, as well as Senior Management of partner organizations both in the private and non-profit sectors.
  • Conduct desk-based and primary research in support of: managing priorities; appropriate marketing; and high functioning product and procurement governance committees
  • Present and demonstrate applied understanding of all solutions/platforms
  • Present and demonstrate deep understanding of business models, pricing and value proposition of all solutions/platforms
  • Coordinate Grant fund-raising activities & align with sales teams
  • Promote company at selected conferences and exhibitions
  • Generate, solicit and edit content for marketing material
  • Contribute to periodic newsletters, research papers and white papers
  • Maintain and improve quantitative impact framework per product, including monitoring key value metrics across all product implementations.
  • Prepare technical responses to requests proposals, including coordination of channel and customer requirements
  • Build and enhance proposal templates and presentations

Stakeholder Management

  • Support Sales, Operations, Product, Commercial and Technical to manage, maintain and grow stakeholder relationships
  • Record all interactions, activities and engagements
  • Ensure tenant queries are adequately addressed by support team
  • Routine engagement with stakeholders to assess satisfaction levels, system functioning
  • Manage cadence, governance, and outputs of all critical Product (Functional module) Roadmaps
  • Represent the HoD of Operations in internal and external meetings, including managing decisions/deliverables required of the HoD and aligned with agreed priorities
  • Respond to escalated support queries or complaints which impact on stakeholder relationships

Job Requirements

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience : Designing and implementing high-impact/large budget projects, Project management in complex stakeholder and implementation environments, Building and managing relationships across diverse stakeholder contexts, Providing quantitative analysis at Executive Management level
  • Lead development and execution of DigiFarm Ethiopia strategy and implementation over the next 3 years
  • Ensure development and implementation of key services locally in Ethiopia, including registration, geotagging, extension services, market access, inputs access amongst others
  • Lead any fundraising efforts for implementing DigiFarm services locally in Ethiopia
  • Be willing to travel extensively, local and international
  • Support the adoption and use of standard systems and processes by the sales teams related to commercials and channel cooperation & communication
  • Excellent presentation, , negotiation, and communication skills
  • Detail orientated with keen understanding of quantitative analyses and multi-criteria decision making in complex environments
  • Good technical and product-market fit understanding in order to link stakeholder value propositions to practical platform functionalities
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Working knowledge of project management methodologies and tools
  • Keen understanding of the fundamentals of financial analysis, business modelling and budget processes.
