ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA) is one of the pioneering professional Associations in Ethiopia. The Association was formally established on July 2, 1962 G.C with 100 founding members. EMA is a member of the World Medical Association since 1994 G.C and currently has more than 3500 registered members.

It has ten branch offices in five regions (Gondar, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Dessie, Jimma, Adama, Debre Markos Harare, Hawassa and Arba Minch). EMA has been operational for over 59 years on promoting quality of medical service in Ethiopia and evidence-based medicine through publishing the Ethiopian Medical Journal (EMJ) and with a to ensure that the community gets quality health service and care; promote the highest standards in medical education, science, art and practice and ensure the rights and benefits of medical professionals (doctors) and act as their voice.

JOB SUMMARY

The Project/program Officer who reports to the Manager, Program Development & Management is responsible for Facilitation of routine program activities; training programs including medical certificate of cause of death (MCCOD) and ICD coding Project/Program and other project activities and closely works with program staff and partners. S/he assists in preparation of project implementation plans, budgets and carries out proper implementation of the projects. The Project Officer handles all the facilitation functions in related to trainings, and other project activities.  

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparation of project/program implementation plans, budgets and carry out proper implementation of the established training programs at EMA and on Medical certificate of cause of death (MCCOD) and ICD coding project/ pertinent to the responsibility.
  • Provides technical and professional support to Project area to ensure quality and appropriateness of project intervention as well as ensure its sustainability.
  • Conduct and facilitate in-service and pre-service training need assessment and integrate MCCOD training program to medical university syllabus
  • Coordinate and facilitate course adoption of accreditation by CPD course accreditors for in-service training including MCCOD
  • Works toward incorporating the course content to the health professionals training syllabus including MCCOD
  • Develop instructional materials
  • Facilitate in the accreditation and quality improvement of medical school programs at universities
  • Implement pre-service and in-service program including CPD
  • Evaluate pre-service and in-service training and education implementation
  • Revise exiting relevant curriculum to integrate new and emerging issues
  • Work closely with Government and other stakeholders
  • Organizes and facilitates trainings and other Project interventions including MCCOD, unhealthy diet control proclamation advocacy
  • Provide technical related support to all projects executing by EMA
  • Works with program staffs on a range of tasks aimed at strengthening the MCCD project area’s
  • Prepares training materials, proceedings, posters, reports, etc as deemed necessary.
  • Takes responsibility in organizing and updating the necessary information for all projects in EMA including concerning MCCOD related policies and regulations. 
  • Takes a responsibility of the coordination and management of all projects.
  • Cooperates with other project staffs in implementing the day-to-day activities of the project as planned.
  • Develop and submit weekly plan and report
  • Develop high quality monthly, quarterly and annual report.
  • Facilitate EMA branch office revitalization process
  • Performs other related activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Work Unit: Program Development and Management

Reports To: Program Development and Management Manager

Duty Station: Addis Ababa with frequent travel to regional branches

Position Grade: V

Job Requirements

Education and Qualification

  • MPH/MSc or BSc in Health related fields and trainings on project management disciplines is an advantage
  • 4/6yrs relevant experience in project coordination or managing health programs and familiarity with the Ethiopian health sector transformation plan and other regulations.
