Ohio State Global One Health, LLC (Ohio State GOH, LLC) is an affiliate entity of The Ohio State University working extensively on a range of One Health-related projects targeting laboratory, surveillance, and healthcare (both human and animal) workforce capacity strengthening through applied education, training, and research throughout Ethiopia. Our organization would like to invite interested professionals to apply for the following vacant positions for the implementation of the project.
Key responsibilities
- The Clinical microbiologist will be responsible with culture and identification of major pathogenic bacterial pathogens from various specimens using conventional microbiology techniques and conduct antimicrobial susceptibility tests for isolated organisms.
- Perform microbial culture and identify different pathogens using various biochemical tests. Conduct antimicrobial susceptibility testing
- Supervise other laboratory staff engaged in isolation, identification and typing of microorganisms. Supervise support staff on proper collection and preparation of specimens for culture and identification of bacterial pathogens
- Prepare bacterial isolates for transportation, further analysis and submission to reference laboratories.
- Record, analyze and interpreting data on trend of occurrence of microorganisms and AMR
- Ensure recording of all data as per the set protocol and timely delivery to data to the reference center and others
- Work in harmony with the laboratory team and hospital infection prevention and control team including multi-drug resistant bacterial pathogens
- Execute other responsibilities as required
Number required: Two
Employment type: Full time one-year contract with a possibility of renewal up on availability of funds and successful performance up on evaluation.
Place of work: to be seconded at Zewditu Memorial Hospital or Tikur Anbsessa Teaching Hospital Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Job Requirements
Required Qualification and work Experience
- MSc Degree in Medical Microbiology, or Laboratory Technology
- Minimum of 5 years experience in microbiology laboratory diagnostic services including antimicrobial susceptibility testing
- Experience of isolating and characterizing major bacterial pathogens from different specimens
Working relationships: Receives technical support from the hospital lab head and the AMR project lead at the GOHi regional office.
Adjunct skills Required for all positions
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks; proven self-initiative and problem solving abilities and proven track record of quality performance in highly pressured environments
- Excellent facilitation skills, and strong understanding of how to safely and accurately collect feedback from key stakeholders
- Computer skills, including Word, Excel, Power-Point, and Access
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision making capabilities based on use of data
