Introduction

ASDEPO is a humanitarian, Civil Society Organization founded in 2014 that works in all regions of Ethiopia. ASDEPO fulfills its mandate by providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations, including refugees, internally displaced people and host communities. Under its mandate, the organization focuses on emergency humanitarian response, rehabilitation and post-conflict recovery.

Employee Position Summary

This position will have the overall responsibility of coordinating, planning and organizing the overall nutrition related activities in project areas and lead the nutrition team to achieve objectives and deliverables of nutrition components of the project including CMAM and IYCF. S/he is also expected to effectively and efficiently collaborate with other teams of the project, other partners and government counterparts for the achievement of the project.  

Additionally, he/she will be heavily involved in capacity building and training of ASDEPO’s and MOH staffs working on nutrition programs and be responsible for overseeing projects. Implementation from a technical perspective in all programs sites.

 Main Responsibility:

  • Liaise with concerned government authorities and ensure the program strategy, objectives and activities are understood and agreed and appropriate communication channel is in place.
  • Facilitate the development / adaptation (national protocols) of nutrition education training manuals and facilitator’s guide based on existing national nutrition protocols and curricula including training follow-up.
  • Develop detail plan of work for TFP, SFP and IYCF activities according to the expected progress of the project.
  • Ensure that the planned activities are implemented according to the work plan within the planned budget with good quality as per the national, UNHCR and ASDEPO standards
  • Prepare and coordinate trainings, workshops and other meetings.
  • Develop the staff capacity according the gaps identified and report to his/her immediate supervisor.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate quality assurance measures and ensure appropriate follow up.
  • Serve as nutrition resource person at field sites.
  • Consult and work with the ASDEPO’s nutrition professional field staff in the treatment of malnourished children and IYCF component.
  • Plan and conduct nutritional assessments following the nationally approved survey protocol.
  • Help the TFP, SFP and IYCF team in any task when required
  • Conduct critical monitoring of all aspects of the CMAM program, and identify areas of concern or problems. Submit workable solutions for any problems found.
  • Support the nutrition staff to establish reporting systems and data flow mechanisms and ensure proper functioning of the systems for regular assessment, monitoring and evaluation of the program against its objectives and expected results.
  • Compile and submit weekly, bi-weekly and monthly routine TFP, IYCF and SFP report
  • Participate in the follow-up of supplies consumption and orders
  • Ensuring that stock levels are sufficient for the functioning of SFP and TFP (weekly, monthly or quarterly)
  • Make monthly physical inventory of all nutrition supplies
  • Develop productive working relationships with Government, Non-Governmental institutions and other project partners
  • Conduct regular meetings with the nutrition program staffs to discuss and document lessons learned
  • Assist in organization of project workshop and seminars, including preparation of short reports.

Job Requirements

 Job Requirement, Qualification and Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition/public health from recognized learning institution plus four years of experience in related field
  • Bachelor degree in Nutrition or related field of study with 5years of experience in related field
  • Experience working on development projects specially on nutrition and BCC
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English. Advanced proficiency in the use of MS Office, Email and other computer applications
  • Ability to develop good team spirit and support field staff
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with colleagues in course of work
  • Willingness to work additional hours in order to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret data and familiarity with nutrition surveys (Coverage, standard and KAP surveys)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work in rural areas where the project is implemented
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in ensuring community participation and gender issues in humanitarian programming
  • Effectively work with government, community leaders, international/national organizations, donors, partners and other ASDEPO’s staff
  • Ability to cope with stress; hardship; patience and flexibility

Desirable

  • Knowledge on IDP and refugee context is preferred.
