We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for a Principal Officer - Business Continuity Planning within the Legal and Risk Function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Detailed Description

Reporting to the EHOD: Risk and Compliance, the position holder will facilitate the development, implementation and maintenance of a Business Continuity and Crisis Management Programme and plans for Safaricom in liaison with line managers/stakeholders of identified mission critical functions of the business and the Crisis Management team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and rollout documentation and processes for certification with ISO 22301
  • Design and provides support for stakeholders to complete business continuity plans.
  • Consolidate business continuity plans, identify potential areas of weakness and communicate the same with concerned stakeholders for review where required.
  • Facilitate reviews at regular intervals to ensure plans are updated for changes in technology, processes, personnel etc.
  • Identification and ranking of mission critical activities across the business.
  • Facilitate the identification of risks inherent in the mission critical activities based on input from service line stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the business impact assessment of the interruption of identified activities e.g. impact on revenue, cost, reputation, downtime.
  • Prepare the annual Business Continuity work plan and update this mid-year based on feedback received, activities carried out, identified priority areas etc.
  • Manage the coordination of the Business continuity Programme to ensure that key systems and processes are tested for Business Continuity using a combination of desktop exercises, scenario planning and live tests. Report weaknesses identified and coordinate stakeholders’ revision of plans.
  • Develop and administer tests to review mission critical activities and determining the level of resistance to interruption from various sources e.g. technical failure, natural disaster and sabotage /breach of security.
  • Prepare reports to the manager based on activities carried out as per plan.
  • Develop and sustain a holistic awareness campaign at strategic and tactical levels to address key and emerging risks proactively with target groups whose responsibility it is to manage those specific risks.
  • Manage the Crisis Management and Communication plan to ensure that new members are inducted and trained within 1 month of appointment and that incidents defined as a crisis are responded to by the Crisis Management team within pre-defined thresholds per the Incident and Crisis Matrix
  • Attend CMT meetings and document key actions arising for follow up
  • Ensure adequate oversight of the state of Business Continuity Management by providing summary reports for review by the Board Audit Committee.

Job Requirements

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, finance & related fields
  • Relevant certification in Business Continuity and/or Risk Management
  • At least 4 years proven experience in Business Continuity Management and/or Risk Management
  • Detailed knowledge of cross-functional operations and impact of one department on another
  • Technical appreciation of key network interdependencies
  • Excellent report writing, interpersonal and presentation skills
