Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is seeking to implement a new project which focuses on Street Children’s in three cities namely Addis Ababa, Adama and Diredawa. The aim of the project is to transform and empower children who work and live on the streets of those cities by employing an integrated intervention that mixes outreach services, family tracing and reintegration, skills development and creating community based sustainable solutions targeting systems, structures, and policies related to children in street situations. This includes direct work with children in street situations, adult caregivers, and young persons as a strategy to address the situation of street children.

We are looking for a Project Cashier, who will be responsible for recieving payment nade to SOS Children Village, depostiting cash and cheques recieved to bank account, effecting cash and cheque payments as per the directives thereon.

Your role....

As a Project Cashier, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Ensures payments are made in time and according to generally accepted accounting principles and in accordance to SOS Children Village financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensures incomes are collected in time and in accurate amount.
  • Checks, accounts receive payments made to SOS-Children Village and provide official receipt thereon.
  • Deposits daily money received by cash and cheque to bank account.
  • Maintains petty cash fund and replenishes fund with accountant against proper payment vouchers.
  • Keeps properly cash and cheque pad, printed receipts and transaction documents in safe custody.
  • Keeps record of amounts received and paid, reconciles cash at hand with recorded balance.
  • Notifies immediately the Manager, Programme Finannce of any overage or shortage incurred.
  • Coding all payments as per given directives.

Education 

  • Diploma in Accounting

Experience

  •  A minimum of 4years’ experience as a Cashier

Additional Requirements

  • Good report writing skills
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

The Pluses:

  • Prior INGO Experience is an asset
