Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is seeking to implement a new project which focuses on Street Children’s in three cities namely Addis Ababa, Adama and Diredawa. The aim of the project is to transform and empower children who work and live on the streets of those cities by employing an integrated intervention that mixes outreach services, family tracing and reintegration, skills development and creating community based sustainable solutions targeting systems, structures, and policies related to children in street situations. This includes direct work with children in street situations, adult caregivers, and young persons as a strategy to address the situation of street children.

We are looking for a Project Accoutant, who will be responsible for records financial transactions to appropriate projects and tasks, prepares periodic financial statements and reports, and keeps the records of the accounts books up to date according to SOS financial manual and Procedure’s and involve in financial closings

Your role....

As a Project Accountant, you will be in charge of the following:

Review payment requests for accuracy, completeness, compliance, level of authorization and clarity on the invoices.

Review disbursement requests for accuracy, documentation and validity; effect payment to the right vendor from the right project.

Review accounts on regular basis to ensure the balances are complete and accurate;

Monthly prepare payroll, transfer salaries, follow up on status of  Social Security (Pension) and Tax departments.

Assists the Manager, Program finance in the Implementation of the internal control system and financial procedures manual of the organization.

Provide technical support to the program location facilities in SOS Children Village program financial management related issues.

The must haves:

Education 

  • BA Degree or Diploma in Accounting

Experience

  •  2 up tp 6 years’ experience in in Accounting 

Additional Requirements

  • Strong set of personal values including integrity, honesty and desire to be of service
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ease of using computers with mastery on application soft wares such as MS Word, MS Windows, and MS Excels including influencing, negotiation and coaching/mentoring

The Pluses:

  • Prior INGO Experience is an asset
