Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is seeking to implement a new project which focuses on Street Children’s in three cities namely Addis Ababa, Adama and Diredawa. The aim of the project is to transform and empower children who work and live on the streets of those cities by employing an integrated intervention that mixes outreach services, family tracing and reintegration, skills development and creating community based sustainable solutions targeting systems, structures, and policies related to children in street situations. This includes direct work with children in street situations, adult caregivers, and young persons as a strategy to address the situation of street children.

We are looking for a Project Coordinator who will be responsible to effectively coordinate the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the project and the project activities in the intervention area and the donor compliances and coordinating with all partners and stakeholders engaged in the project.

Your role....

As a Project Coordinator, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Developing work plans with the project team and implementing partners, use of project management tools Project delivery, including monitoring of activities progress target, and supervising and recording project activities expenditure against budget
  • Coordinating and liaising between the project team and local partners/other agencies/local government/local communities/displaced community as regards to the project
  • Representing SOS CVE at the stakeholders meeting as necessary
  • Managing the implementing partners by leading the project team to effectively manage and support implementing partners, in collaboration with the finance team
  • Implementing project activities and ensure the good quality and quantity of the project/s outcomes
  • Conducting street children assessments using standard assessment processes and tools
  • Coordinating with other SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia thematic areas, the Child Protection Working Group, and other external sector agencies, ensuring assessment findings are documented and that all assessments include a disaggregated analysis of children’s needs.
  • Monitoring project implementation to ensure quality delivery of activities
  • Supporting project technical team in the preparation of timely project and donor reports for project activities in compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Monitoring and systematically document project results in his/her respective area of assignment;
  • Regularly scheduling reviews of projects with project team, government and/or non-government partners and stakeholders in his/her respective area of assignment;
  • Ensuring quality and comprehensive case management systems are in place to project participants who are at risk.
  • Ensuring the coordination of case management and program data base activities for quality reporting
  • Ensuring that the concept of confidentiality and do no harm are integrated into project implementation.
  • Ensuring the project response complies with the minimum standards of the MA and with in Humanitarian Settings
  • Identifying learning and training opportunities for technical staff and partners and work as a mentor and role model for less experienced staff.
  • Building the capacity of officers, local government, local partners’ staff.
  • Participating in various child and GBV forums, networks and other related platforms to ensure children needs of children are addressed
  • Supporting the preparation and submission of reports donors and ensure that correct and appropriate information is included

The must haves:

Education 

  • BA or MA level in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Development Studies or similar, or equivalent field of study

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years experience matching the above-mentioned duties and responsibilities

Additional Requirements

  • Good knowledge of and experience in using established inter-agency standards and guidelines in child protection, such as the Inter-agency Guidelines on Separated and Unaccompanied Children,
  • Previous experience of leading a team and of project management
  • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating street children, transition and development contexts
  • Ability to write clear project reports
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong influencing skills and experience in advocacy
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances
  • Commitment to and understanding of child rights, the aims and principles of SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia, and humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the Code of Conduct.
  • Acceptance of diversity and inclusion as a core value.
  • Willingness to work in flexible, sub-optimal, stressful and unstable environment 
  • Good command of the local language
