Job Description

The Contract Farming Manager has the responsibility of managing contract farming, developing a horticultural business operational framework, and executing contract farming activities, in 6 Woredas of the Meki Batu Cooperatives Union and ensuring all objectives of the Shega Fre Digital Agri-business met in an effective and efficient manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning and developing contract farming documents including agreements.
  • Planning and developing business opportunities through contract farming.
  • Promote the contract farming approach to farmers;
  • Facilitate the contract farming sign off with Farmers and follow up the contract administration and execution
  • Organize/ Administer Input Voucher System/IVS, and Insurance with the Buyer Agent, Agronomist, and Financial Institutions.
  • Administer and manage the warehouse and warehouse receipt
  • Develop the contract farming operational framework;
  • Lead the overall Contract Farming process and execution
  • Review individual contract farming development plans and evaluate in a timely basis;
  • Maintain and update a standard contract farming between the farmers and the Farmer Service Centre for the provision of contract management support;
  • Develop relevant training document on Contract Farming;
  • In consultation with Agronomist and Buyer Agents, develop a training program for contract management staff and Smallholder Farmers
  • Contribute to the preparation of Shega Fre Agribusiness documentation, including business plans, contract farming administration, and budgets;

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science and contract farming professional experience is desirable
  • A minimum of 7 years in practical farm management experience

Other Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of best practices in the contract farming administration and selling of agricultural products
  • Experience in working within a multi-layered organizational structure with the required staffing profile and operating out of several dispersed offices
  • Ability to build positive relationships with multiple stakeholder groups
  • Be an effective team player who is able to work both in a team environment as well as independently
  • A knowledge of Affan Oromo/Multilingual would be an advantage
