The International Institute for Primary Health Care – Ethiopia (IPHC-E) is an organization affiliated with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health (MOH) and supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We provide technical assistance in Primary Health Care(PHC) to the Ministry of Health and other countries through capacity building training, knowledge generation, management and sharing, program design and implementation. We support the MOH through evidence-based policy recommendations, training of PHC leaders for both young and established, implementation of innovation laboratories, and engagement on PHC related policy and strategy designs. We engage in global advocacy to bring PHC as a primary driver to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Ethiopia and beyond.

In addition to building the capacity of Primary Health Care systems across the globe, the Institute focuses on conducting research projects and sponsoring research projects to partner universities through a “small grant” scheme.

In order to guide the research projects planning and implementation processes, IPHC-E is looking to recruit a consultant who would develop a comprehensive research guideline for the Institute. 

Purpose of the work:

IPHC-E wants to develop a research guideline that can be utilized to guide all research activities conducted by the institute including research activities with partner universities that are engaged in “small grant” projects, collaborative researches with international partners. The development of the guideline should consider envisaging income generating capabilities of the institute for the future.

Scope of work

The consultant in collaboration with the research team of the Instiute develops a research guideline. 

Duties and responsibilities of the consultant:

  • Develop a research guideline that can be utilized for all research activities in the Institute

Deliverables:

  • A research guideline
  • Presentation of the guideline
  • Final version of the guideline after accommodating comments 

Location: International Institute for Primary Health Care - Ethiopia

Reports to: Research team/(Senior researcher) IPHC-E

Employment: Contractual – 30 days (1 month)

Job Requirements

Required qualifications, experiences and skills:

  • PhD in public health or related field or MD with Master’s degree in public health
  • Experience in developing research guidelines for various research projects
  • Proven writing skills in the English language
  • Good communication skills
  • Outstanding experience in research methods and techniques (design, data collection, analysis and report writing)
  • Is proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Power point)
  • A minimum of 10-year experience in public health research after graduate degree
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Published 5 or more papers in peer reviewed journals
  • Able to work with multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams

Compensation and Modalities of Payment

  • The consultant is expected to submit deliverables within 30 days
  • The consultant would be compensated for the amount of work done.
  • The consultant is expected to submit technical & financial proposal with sealed envelop
