Job Description

Purpose of the Position:

Responsible for maintaining accurate general ledger information for, and reporting on the historical financial transactions of, MCE. This includes preparing financial statements for audit purposes as well as reports on actual performance for external as well as internal users. The role also includes liaising with the external auditors on an annual basis and compliance with all corporation taxes relevant to MCE.

Key Accountabilities

Accounting, GL Maintenance, Reconciliations

• Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger and Trial Balance, by ensuring that accounting transactions of MCE are complete, accurate, recorded in the correct period, and correctly classified as income, expenses, assets or liabilities
• Ensuring all general journals that are passed are valid and duly authorised
• Conduct trend analysis on the accounts and highlight and investigateany discrepancies
• Ensure operating expenses (opex) and capital expenditure (capex) remains within budgeted levels and highlight and investigate any discrepancies
• Ensure complete and accurate intercompany transactions and monthly confirmation of balances (as applicable) in a timely manner
• Provide accurate and complete accounting of Fixed Asset acquisition, disposals and amortization in line with company policy
•  Ensure relevant reconciliations are in place, reviewed and reconciling items followed up (notably bank reconciliations, but also other key Balance Sheet balances)
• Liaise with Transaction Finance department on account receivables or payables reconciliation
• Ensure AP Monthly Accruals are accurately raised, reversed and reconciled at every reporting period
• Ensure relevant provisions are made or reversed on a monthly basis
• Maintain monthly debtors and creditors ageing and commentary for resolution
• Ensure accurate stock accounting and reconciliations to monthly stock count
• Fixed Assets Accounting

Reporting and analysis

• Detailed and timely submission of monthly TB with commentary
• Prepare monthly Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cashflow information in line with generally accepted accounting practice
• Assist and support the completion of monthly internal and external reporting packs, budgets and forecast as applicable
•  Prepare Annual financial Statements
• Liaise with auditors on annual statutory audit and prior year audit findings are addressed

Job Requirements

The incumbent is required to have the following qualifications and experience level:

• BA Degree in Finance or related field from recognized university
•  Minimum 8 years’ experience in a financial environment
• Certified or Chartered Accountant preferable
• Knowledge and working knowledge of relevant corporation taxes
• Advanced Excel proficiency
• Experience in multi-national environment will be an added advantage
• Fluent in English
• In-depth knowledge of and working experience in relevant corporation taxes
• Experience in managing and dealing with people
