SNV, Netherlands Development Organization, is operating in Ethiopia since the 1970s. Currently, SNV is working in eight regional states and the two city administrations of Ethiopia, providing technical assistance and program implementation in Agriculture, WASH, and Energy Sectors. SNV is an open and learning organization that focuses on improving the lives of Ethiopians through a market-based approach inclusive of women and youth. In its new Strategic Plan period (2019 – 2022), SNV will more explicitly aim for systems change including strengthening institutions and kick-starting markets that help many more to escape poverty beyond our projects.

 Project Overview: 

Kunzila Integrated Landscape Management and WASH (ILMWA) project aims to improve the health, wellbeing, and livelihood of people through improved WASH services in seven Kunzila watershed kebeles of North Achefer woreda in the Amhara region. The project is being implemented since March 2020 and is 5 years project funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN).

The WASH component of the ILMWA project is planned to achieve Universal coverage in the project areas. This will be achieved through improving the operation and maintenance of the existing water supply schemes and the construction of new water supply schemes. The project will construct three Multi village water supply schemes that will serve more than 11,000 people each. 

SNV is seeking experienced and professional applicants for the position of Construction Engineer for the KILMWA Project in SNV Country office, Addis Ababa.

Project Planning and Implementation

• Manage the construction of the Multi Village water Scheme and sanitation facilities based on the approved BoQ and design Drawings ensuring utmost quality
• Supervise the construction activities of contractors on constructions sites (gravity and pressure line, distribution network, wells, pumping station, reservoirs, and other hydro-technical structures) and ensure all work of the Contractor is in accordance with the approved plans, specifications, and agreement document
• Develop detailed implementation plan for the construction activities, fiscal and financial plans.
• Support the WASH Engineer in designs, calculations, specifications, bills of quantities, and drawings for contract work packages for the Multi Village Water Schemes

Project Monitoring and Reporting

• In coordination with the WASH, the Engineer ensures that all reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
• Implement periodic daily monitoring and evaluation to ensure targets are being met and where needed re-alignment of project interventions to meet targets.
• Work closely with WASH Engineer and other project staff to ensure that it is consistent, quality monitoring and evaluation of water, Hygiene, and sanitation-related activities and that reporting is accurate and on time

Qualifications

Education

• A minimum of a University Degree in Water resources engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, civil engineering, or relevant technical Water Resources specialization.

Experience

• At least 4 to 5 years of experience for first-degree holder specifically in overall design and construction of Water Supply infrastructure Project preferably Multi Village Water scheme construction. Previous work experience in international nongovernmental organizations on a similar assignment. Experience from the region would be an advantage.

• The position is offered based on a National contract for a term of 1 year with a possible extension.
