Job Description

Background

The International Institute of Primary Health Care in Ethiopia (IPHC-E) was established by the Ethiopian Ministry of Health with technical support from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). It envisions becoming a center of excellence in primary health care. IPHC-E has four strategic themes, namely national PHC support, Global PHC support, Knowledge generation and management, Advocacy, and communication.

The American International Health Alliance (AIHA), with funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), is implementing a twinning project to strengthen IPHC-E’s capacity with the University of Queensland (UoQ). To this end, IPHC-E and AIHA agreed to hire a project coordinator for the project.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Understand the capacity gaps identified through the organizational capacity assessment
  • Familiarize with the twining approach and the details of the proposal
  • Support the preparation of a detailed implementation plan of the project
  • Support the development of implementation manuals and guidelines
  • Organize training and mentoring activities at national and regional levels
  • Organize staff exchange programs in country and overseas
  • Understand the requirements to become a WHO collaborating center (CCs) and benchmark

  • Prepare quarterly and monthly plans and reports
  • Based on the need assessment, work with the other team members to build the capacity of 

The regional hubs

  • Establish partnerships with regional hubs and relevant stakeholders
  • Liaise with IPHC-E, AIHA and UoQ
  • Identify and expand new partnerships

Required number: 1 (one)

Reports: Director of Programs, IPHC-E

Terms of employment: contract until October 2022 with possible extension

Place of work: IPHC-E office based in Addis Ababa with travel to regional hubs

Job Requirements

Required qualifications, experiences, and skills:

  • Master’s Degree in public health or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of proven experience as a program coordinator or other managerial positions
  • Able to work independently and with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and adherence to deadlines
