Summary:

The U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Travel Assistant.

The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time (40 hours per week)

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period (4 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties

The incumbent is responsible for providing complete travel services for direct-hire employees, VIPs, official visitors, eligible family members, locally employed staff, and other individuals who are entitled to use Post-travel services. Arrange travel and temporary lodging accommodations for U.S. citizens and locally employed personnel assigned to post and all official visitors, considering most direct routes, salary and per diem costs, airfares, the balance of payments considerations, and other pertinent factors. Prepare all documentation required for travelers to complete the trip, including Travel authorization (E2), diplomatic notes requesting visas, travel message cables, and other relevant forms and documents. Arranges for visas and other entry or departure requirements, monitors status of locally-required visas and informs staff of the need to renew, and is responsible for safeguarding employee passports during these processes. Maintains an Embassy visitor’s list, contacts with working-level personnel at ticket offices of airlines, hotels, travel agencies, and relevant local Ministries to facilitate all Embassy travel requirements, including occasional short notice requests. Establishes and maintains contact with the Department of State travel contractor for direct-hire staff and their families. Maintains work log for travel services. Other special projects as assigned. Back-up to Visit & Support Coordinator. Advises U.S. citizen personnel of their entitlements in a wide variety of travel situations, including home leave, R&R leave, medical evacuation, invitational travel, emergency leave, etc.

 Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in the travel field is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: English Level 4 (Fluent) speaking, reading, and writing, and Amharic Level 4 (Fluent) speaking, reading, and writing are required. (These may be tested)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to deal tactfully, yet effectively, with host country officials and with U.S. citizen personnel and VIP visitors. Required to have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Suite software and the Internet. (These may be tested)

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Addis Ababa/Ethiopia may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.

The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

COVID-19 Requirements for Eligible Family Members

As required by Executive Order 14043, Eligible Family Members who will be employed on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Temporary Appointment (TEMP) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee’s duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law.
