Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

As part of SOS CVE's effort to respond to different emergencies such as drought, flood, conflict etc, which arise from time to time in different parts of the country, the organization has secured funding from the DERF to implement a six months emergency response project in the North Shewa zone of the Amhara region. The project will work to address the food Integrated Emergency health, Nutrition, RMNH, ES/NFI, food security and Livelihood needs of returnee in the North Shewa zone of the Amhara region. 

Why we need you?

We are looking for a Community Mobilization Officer who will be responsible to provides support in the implementation, organization, follow-up and reporting of community mobilization activities in collaboration with project staff and other stakeholders. He/she will be responsible to mobilize and facilitate active participation of beneficiary children, caregivers, community leaders and other stakeholders in project activities, dialogue meetings of target population to participate in planning, monitoring and implementation and evaluation of project.

Your role....

While working with us a Community Mobilization Officer you will be;

Reporting to:  Project Filed Coordinator

In charge of the following:

  • Undertake Community Mobilization Activities in collaboration with the project staff and key community representatives.
  • Organize sensitization meetings with community leaders, village heads, community elders, traditional leaders
  • Undertake community mapping and other similar exercises; and Promote integration of project activities.
  •  Facilitate and Conduct regular/refresher trainings particularly on community mobilization
  • Ensure that support groups are formed according to the plan; and Set up regular Awareness/education sessions in the community in consultation with key project staff
  • Be in charge of organizing the meetings and mobilizing the community regarding our integrated project intervention in the community
  • Strengthen the referral linkage of community to service provider with appropriate format
  • Continuously undertake promotion and social mobilization activities in the community to improve the knowledge, attitudes and behavior of the community
  • Coordinate with other NGO’s in operating areas to collaborate and support one another for better interventions and maximization of collective efforts
  •  Provides support in the implementation, organization, follow-up and reporting of community mobilization activities of the SOS program in close collaboration with project staff
  • Liaise with communities, local authorities and other agencies regularly to ensure coordination and effective implementation of activities

The must haves:

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, Sociology, community development, communication and other relevant fields of study

Experience

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in community organizing, community mobilization, and/or resource mobilization in the community is required·        
  • Proven experience in outreach, communications, advocacy, community mobilization, and behavior change

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to effectively liaise with government, donors, NGOs, community leaders and other stakeholders
  • Abilities in public speaking and facilitating meetings
  • Knowledge of basic MS Office and Outlook is required.
  • Strong knowledge on monitoring and evaluation and report writing
  • Ability to plan and organize work to meet individual, team and project objective
  • Have Training and facilitation skill
  • Demonstrated ability for conflict resolution and independent decision making
  • Strong interpersonal skills & excellent team player.
  • Willingness and ability to work in hardship environment.
  • Cultural and gender sensitivity

  • Prior INGO Experience is an asset
