Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for an Emergency Response Project Coordinator who will be responsible for leading and coordinating a portfolio of emergency response interventions in SOS CVE mainly in Amhara Region for the smooth and effective implementation of the project.

Your role....

While working with us as an Emergency Response Project Coordinator, you will be 

Reporting to:  National Emergency Response Program Coordinator

In charge of the following:

  • Contribute to gathering humanitarian information during the first steps of the project, understanding the implications of a humanitarian response in the midst of the conflict.
  • Plan and conduct periodic monitoring visits to the project area and maintain a persistent contact with the field level project staff
  • Working with field level staff in preparing periodic reports, updates to donors, respond to queries from donors and partners
  • Participate in needs assessment missions and in developing proposals and concept notes
  • Represent SOS CVE in regular, sectoral cluster meetings with government or other NGOs whenever requested.
  • Support in the Preparation of trainings and workshops on topics that are relevant to the smooth implementation of this project, and other similar projects.
  • Coordinate assessments, evaluations, trainings conducted by outside consultants
  • Support in revising strategic plan of the emergency response department
  • Guarantee project quality and time schedule throughout close and horizontal coordination with implementing partners.
  • Integrate gender analysis into programme plans and implementation.
  • Ensure vulnerable children and women inclusion in all aspects of project activities.
  • Strengthen links with emergency/food security departments in other NGOs through effective and on-going coordination, information-sharing and results dissemination at regional level and national level.
  • Ensure the highest standards of accountability through ensuring good communication and information sharing within and outside the programme and enabling staff, beneficiary and other stakeholder participation at all stages of the project cycle

The must haves:

Education

  • MA/BA degree in Disaster risk Management or Development Studies, Social Sciences, agricultural economics, natural resource management or equivalent qualifications

 Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in leading and coordinating humanitarian aid and/or development work in multi-cluster INGOs, LNGOs
  • Practical experience and knowledge of emergency project management including emergency needs assessment, project design, development and implementation
  • Experience or education/training in one of the following fields is an asset: Food security and livelihoods, health, nutrition, WASH

 Other Requirements

  • Proven expertise and understanding of emergency preparedness and response, and development issues with a relevant technical competence in emergency needs assessment, project design, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Strong background in FSL, WASH, Nutrition.
  • Good understanding of humanitarian issues, with experience of/or ability to work directly with local NGOs or communities.
  • Knowledge of Ethiopia in terms of its political, economic and social trends plus a good understanding of the key development and humanitarian issues in the region.
  • Demonstrated experience of integrated gender and diversity into humanitarian response programmes.
