The African Union (AU) is the primary pan African platform for promoting and protecting human rights, including the rights of children. ChildFund International seeks to second the Director, AU Liaison - OSEAC to the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa in line with Childfund International’s Global strategy “Growing Connections” with the ambition to protect children from Online Sexual Exploitation and Abuse).
Through contact and interaction with key AU decision-makers and Member States, the Director, AU Liaison - OSEAC engages in a strategic manner to gain political support for children’s rights, as well as partner with AU and other stakeholders to strengthen policies to protect children as they access information and use internet connectivity. The position holder shall be a member of ChildFund’s Global taskforce on Ending OSEAC.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- To lead in defining and delivering ChildFund’s engagement at the continental level in Africa including program delivery, representation and advocacy.
- To build relationships and linkages between ChildFund, African Policy making institutions, and civil society organizations across the continent in order to develop and enhance co-operation and impact on child rights and related issues.
- To ensure that ChildFund gains access to continental and regional forums and that the organization is known and sought out by decision-makers on issues related to children and child rights and specifically Online Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
- To project and facilitate learning between ChildFund’s work and experience in Africa and the major institutional actors that are based in Africa. This will include the representation to UN bodies, INGOs, corporate sector and donors in liaison with the AU and the other institutions.
- To connect the opportunities and needs for continental influencing with ChildFund’s national and global influencing and advocacy strategies by sharing critical information and participating in defining organizational priorities and advocacy objectives.

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- 11 years’ experience in advocacy, 8 of which should be in a similar role, engaging the AU and Regional bodies in the child protection sector.
- Demonstrated track record in advocacy within the AU/African environment with a special emphasis on the rights of children.
- Demonstrated experience in serving as a technical Advisor in multi-cultural work environments focusing on advocacy and international relations engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to build, develop and foster relationships internally and externally.
- Demonstrate skills in fundraising, resource mobilization and management
- Excellent administrative, communications, negotiation and decision-making skills
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English; French is an added advantage
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and report writing skills
- Demonstrated ability to represent and interact with government officials, donors, international organizations and NGO representatives
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft office (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
EDUCATION/certifications
- Bachelors degree in Child Advocacy and Policy or other social sciences required, Masters a plus is an added advantage. Equivalent relevant experience maybe acceptable in lieu of degree.
