Line Manager: Regional Program Manage

Overall Objectives for the Job

Provide comprehensive laboratory support to Regional Health Bureaus, Regional Laboratories and health facilities under the President’s Malaria initiatives (PMI) funded Malaria Diagnosis and Treatment (MDT) Activity. Reporting to the regional program manager, the regional laboratory advisor is responsible for supporting improvement of malaria laboratory diagnosis and quality assurance across MDT activity supported health facilities in the respective region.

Major duties and responsibilities:

• The incumbent will be responsible to provide technical supports to the malaria laboratory diagnosis and treatment activities in the following areas:
• Provide technical assistance for regional planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of malaria diagnosis and treatment activities.
• Assist development and/or review of malaria laboratory diagnosis and quality monitoring tools.
• Conducting baseline and follow up assessment on malaria laboratory diagnosis and monitoring activities
• Assist development of MDT training materials and conducting onsite and offsite training
• Assist design of quality assurance program for malaria laboratory diagnosis and facilitate its implementation at the supported health facilities
• Provide regular supportive supervision and mentorship to regional and woreda malaria programs and facility laboratory staff on malaria laboratory diagnosis and quality assurance
• Participate in the regular regional laboratory technical working group meetings
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Job Requirements

• Minimum of BSc in laboratory sciences or related fields
• Recent work experience in the field of laboratory science for at least five years
• Experience in conducting training, supervisions, and mentorship
• Experience in development and review of documents related to laboratory services
• Ability to work in a team with good team spirit
• Computer skills ( Word, PowerPoint, Spreadsheet, etc)
• Knowledge of local language is an added advantage  

Travel Requirements

• Approximately 80% travel to supported health facilities.
