Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia since 2002 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing a range of projects in maternal, neonatal and child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, health workforce development, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases across the country, supported by a wide range of multilateral and bilateral donors, corporates and foundations.

Amref Health Africa would like to recruit Assistant Accountant for its RESET plus FP project funded by EU. The job holder will be based in Wolaita Soddo town and reports to the Project Officer.

Terms of employment: one year with possible extension

 Key Responsibilities and duties:

  • Handle petty cash fund
  • Prepare Petty Cash payment vouchers
  • Prepare on time petty cash replenishment document with the cash count balance.
  • Prepare cheque payment vouchers and cheques.
  • Prepare cash receiving voucher for any remittance
  • Effect payment to payee and ascertain that acknowledgments are received
  • Deduct withholding tax and summarize on Withholding tax payments sheet and affect the payment on time to Inland Revenue in conjunction with the monthly payroll tax.
  • Call to service provider or supplier to collect their check
  • Deposit any cash returned form advance settlement to bank on time and give copy of cash receipt to the staff who settled his/her advance as a confirmation of settlement of advance.
  • Collect Bank advice & bank statement from bank
  • Maintain filling of all financial documents, all Payment vouchers, so that easy access and tracing is possible.
  • Make paid stamp for all paid document on time & CLM
  • Keep the smooth working relationship in the office
  • Secretarial support and information Flow: in charge of receiving and dispatching correspondence (including letters, faxes, email, telephones etc).
  • Reception: Receives all visitors and acts as the first point of references for all queries to the project/program/unit. Also handles all phones calls to the project.
  • Reporting: Process and distribute a variety of reports including minutes, monthly and annual reports from the office as required.
  • Information Management: Develop and maintain relevant databases and filing systems for optimal management of information and contacts.
  • Office management: Maintain the office petty cash, office inventory, and stationary supplies and utility services maintenance.
  • Supervision: Under the general direction of manager, coordinate work to general support staff attached to the office this include vehicles fuel management.
  • Any other task assigned by area coordinator

Job Requirements

  • Diploma in Accounting from recognized college.
  • At least three years relevant work experience in a busy NGO.
  • NGO experience is an advantage and willing to work in Field areas
  • Direct experience in cash handling.
  • Communication & writing skills in both Amharic & English
  • Excellent computer skills: Ms windows, Ms Word and Excel
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving and networking skills
  • Be a team player and communicator and work under minimal supervision
