Currently, Dereja is undertaking projects in tackling the issue of youth unemployment with various partners. Dereja is a pioneer in establishing Career Center services in Higher Education Institutions, organizing regional and national job fairs, designing and delivering employability skills training for fresh graduates as well as working on various additional interventions towards building the youth’s employability skills. Thus, IMS is looking for a Project Manager who will be responsible to lead the implementation of projects in Dereja. 

Job Summary

 The Project Director will be responsible for the overall management of Dereja projects, provide support and guidance for Project Managers, supervise project implementation, coordinate partnerships with stakeholders and initiate projects that will ensure the implementation of Dereja’s vision for youth development. The Project Director is also responsible to ensure the strategic direction of Dereja is aligned with that of IMS. S/He will report to the Country Manager of IMS.

Project Management and Technical Leadership 

  • Provides strategic, technical, operational, and financial leadership for the successful implementation of project activities.
  • Ensures that the program is in tandem with IMS’s strategy, the Ethiopian Government’s direction in relation to Job Creation and Youth Employment, technically sound, evidence-based and consistent with funder and stakeholders’ priorities.
  • Provides oversight of program implementation including outputs and outcomes related to project management and administration, including reporting, budget development and monitoring, financial transactions, execution of project plans, and project performance.
  • Oversees the selection and training of qualified program staff, assigning clear roles and responsibilities with KPIs, providing effective supervision, and managing performance to ensure efficient operation.
  • Ensures the projects produce the specified results in the annual work plan and targets set to the required standard of quality and within the timeline and budget parameters.
  • Conducts monthly reviews with Project Managers to ensure accountability of all project activities as well as the accurate and timely reporting of financial deliverables and obligations.
  • Provide a consistent report to IMS Management on project status, budget utilization and possible engagement/growth opportunities
  • Provide insight into new business opportunities, business, impact, and market intelligence analysis to the IMS management and the program team to design new projects and enhance existing ones 
  • Constantly be on the lookout for new project opportunities for Dereja, form new partnerships and maintain relationships
  • Develop solicited and unsolicited proposals in Dereja’s areas of intervention and with a focus on youth and unemployment in general
  • Ensure success of submitted proposals
  • Ensure clear project KPIs are identified, understood, measured, tracked, and achieved
  • Identify and monitor project risks and provide mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate
  • Ensures that the project progresses following its contractual obligations and complies with donor regulations and internal organizational policies
  • Ensure the project activities impacts are represented well nationally, policy level, and presented in planning forums and other key stakeholders’ meetings

 Capacity Building and Leadership

  • Develop project management skills of team leads and team members within the Dereja team
  • Develop a capacity development plan for the team including the identification of learning and development opportunities
  • Establishes and manage a high performing team with all the relevant qualification to ensure quality delivery of project goals
  • Boost team performance and identify challenges and propose solutions/ news ways of working to IMS management

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree, preferably MA in Management, Public Administration, or other related fields
  • Experience managing, designing, implementing, and evaluating multi- grant projects
  • Good people management, and communication skills, and negotiation skills to liaise and advocate with governments, donors, thought leaders, and other key stakeholders
  • Proven ability to write technical reports and program documents, and deliver presentations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Amharic or other local languages
  • Ability to travel  
  • Proven technical experience in project/ grant management on workforce development, youth employment/employability
  • Over 8 years’ experience in project management and 3 years in team management
