Job Description

Mercy Corps works in Dollo Ado and Gode field offices in the Somali region to improve the livelihoods, economic opportunities, and food security for refugees and host communities through this WFP-funded award. Mercy Corps engages people in socio-economic activities through user groups acknowledging their capacities, thus improving the quality of their lives and building their resilience for possible shocks in the future, while contributing to self-reliance in the long term. Mercy Corps interventions focus on strengthening market systems, diversifying livelihoods and income, and improving resilience capacities by promoting financial, livestock, and crop market activities.

 DESCRIPTIVE JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Create an environment of excellence, accountability, and collaboration with the teams you are responsible.
  • Ensure all program activities are the highest standard possible
  • Lead effective coordination, collaboration, and integration among all technical, program, and support units within your designated area office;
  • Drive impact-oriented, results-driven, and context-specific planning, execution, and reporting
  • Facilitate and support innovation and application of best practices in all project activities, ensuring review, reflection, and incorporation of feedback are a component of all area programming
  • Develop/Implement processes, tools, and methodologies to ensure effective and efficient project implementation and operations
  • Ensure effective and timely monitoring, documenting, and reporting on all program and support activities as per the policies and practices of Mercy Corps, donors, and the government
  • Provide direct line management support to staff under the direct supervision
  • Develop own deep understanding and mastery of technical area under SIIPE Project including key actors (VSLAs, SACCOs, MFIs, inputs suppliers, fodder producers, traders, employer, climate information service providers, NRM, renewable energy, etc); governance frameworks (formal and informal); and all support markets and functions –. This should include coaching, relationship building, entrepreneurialism/business understanding, and innovating
  • Provide constructive feedback to the staff (subordinate, lateral, and senior) both through informal and formal processes
  • Adhere to Mercy Corps, donor,   and government policies and procedures
  • Represent Mercy Corps professionally at all times in her/his designated area within MC

 Accountability to Beneficiaries

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts towards accountability, specifically to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of our field projects.

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent communicator in English with demonstrated excellent report writing and speaking skills, knowledge of local languages greatly advantageous
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and relationship management skills
  • 5 years experience managing teams, strategic planning, and implementing programs
  • Strong organizational and managerial skills
  • Experience or working in the Somali region with strong contextual knowledge of cultures. Able to work across along Shabelle, Korahay, Afder & Liban zones of SRS
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience effectively initiating and maintaining productive relationships with private, public, civil society and research sector partners
  • Excellent computer skills, including all Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook & Powerpoint)
