We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for Senior Specialist / Platform Engineer (VAS) within Technology in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

 Detailed Description

Reporting to the Head of Customer Systems and Billing, the Senior Specialist VAS Solutions Platform Engineer shall provide technical expertise in VAS solutions systems planning, development, implementation and roll-out of the IT VAS environment within the technology group. The role will also focus on managing analysis, architecture designs, articulate technical proposals, process management, capacity management as well as setting up operations with a goal of executing the IT strategy. In addition, the successful candidate will provide support to the Enterprise and Consumer Business Unit’s Program as pertaining to the rollout of all VAS Products & Services offered to Safaricom customers and executing the Digital IT strategy plan.

Value Added Services include, but are not limited to, Messaging, USSD, Content delivery, Voice (RBT, IVR & Media exchange), Video, OTA, Device management and IOT solutions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide technical expertise in planning and design for new VAS solutions or optimization of existing solutions in line with the IT strategy execution plan.
• Actively participate and provide professional expertise in defining strategy, roadmaps, architecture design and evolution especially towards Cloud & Micro services or applicable technologies.
• Drive implementation of VAS solutions and integration to various network elements
• Timely delivery of project plans and architecture designs with the goal of ensuring high quality standards are met and solutions are operationally viable.
• Responsible for ensuring VAS systems are running n-1 release (latest stable release) through effective software release management plan and security patch vulnerability execution plan.
• Enhance processes and DevOps to improve delivery and increase efficiency by focusing on continuous improvement and optimization.
• Financial planning: Providing input towards effective financial planning for both CAPEX and OPEX with the goal of delivering cost efficiency in VAS domain. 

Job Requirements

• BSc Degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics engineering, Computer Science, IT.
• 8 years or more experience a busy telecommunication/ IT environment or Software Engineering with good knowledge in planning for VAS solutions including Messaging, Voice, Video & IOT.
• At least 5 years’ experience across the SDLC (essential)
• At least 3 years in people leadership
• Proficiency in networking protocols – TCP/IP, professional certification e.g. CCNA/CCNP or equivalent is preferred.
• Working knowledge in Unix systems and Databases – Oracle, MySQL.
• Domain experience in GSM/ IT is a must
• Expertise in various analytics tools such and Python, Standard Query languages, Procedural Programming languages, Linux/Unix, scripting
• Deep understanding of 3GPP protocols and interfaces

• Broad technical expertise combined with business acumen and strong consulting skills.
• Excellent systems analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) - must be able to listen to customers, document requirements quickly & accurately, and review written materials for accuracy. Must also be able to communicate specifications to persons at all levels.
• Proven track record for delivery of large scale, complex projects delivering IT/Telco customer solutions; demonstrable leadership skills and organizational experience.
• Ability to communicate and influence others.
• Ability to drive initiatives without any formal authority in an ambiguous and startup environment
• Sound knowledge of Telco and Digital Services products and services
• Management across multiple delivery areas and vendors
• Deep understanding of both Fixed line and Mobile product development across BSS, VAS, Charging, Contact Centre , Billing and Assurance as well as technical system capabilities and systems integration
• Collaborate with business and technical areas to ensure coordinated understanding of requirements through all project facets
• Ensure that all projects are completed in accordance with scope, timelines, Quality and user experience agreements reached with Business Stakeholders
• Comprehensive experience in the technical design and implementation of complex integrated systems across multiple platforms
