Job Description
The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical and clinical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of diseases of public health importance, including COVID-19 through applied and basic biomedical research and postgraduate training. AHRI is currently functioning as one of the research units under the Ministry of Health, Ethiopia.
COVID-19 is a global pandemic and continues to impact the health and economy of millions. A vaccine is one of the effective tools to mitigate the pandemic. Currently, several COVID-19 vaccines have been approved or authorized by WHO for emergency use and have been administrated worldwide, including Ethiopia. AHRI received grants from the Ministry of Health to carry out research focusing on investigating the COVID-19 vaccines effectiveness, vaccine-induced immune responses, and immune correlates of protection. This collaborative research project is comprised of investigators from AHRI, EPHI, and CHS-AAU and will be conducted in Addis Ababa, the epicenter of the ongoing pandemic.
