We are an international nonprofit dedicated to heal survivors of torture and war trauma. We provide direct care for those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture and war trauma, research and advocate for human rights and end the practice of torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, USA with offices in Africa and the Middle East.
Objective:
The Associate Psychotherapist/Trainer works as part of a team to address the trauma rehabilitation needs of South Sudanese refugees. Under the clinical supervision of the Psychotherapist/Trainers and support of the Clinical Program Director and Clinical Advisor, the Associate Psychotherapist/Trainer will oversee psychological interventions, including crisis response/PFA, individual and group psychotherapy with adults and children who are survivors of torture and conflict trauma. This position also will provide clinical supervision, coaching, and training to a team of Ethiopian counselors and South Sudanese psychosocial counselors and provide education and support to help other organizations better meet the needs of torture and conflict survivors.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Clinical supervision and training: Conduct on-going individual and group clinical supervision, formal training, staff support, promoting self-care, mentoring and modeling to psychosocial counselors, counselors and counseling supervisors. Design and carry out training programs for the counseling department and wider interdisciplinary team. Continually assess learning needs of Ethiopian counselors and South Sudanese psychosocial counselors, and adapt training and coaching accordingly. Adapt training style, content, and frequency to meet both individual and team needs. Focus on consistently building the capacity of clinical staff. Participate in hiring and orientation for new counselors and psychosocial counselors, as well as interpreters and interns.
- Clinical Management: Manage performance of supervisees and provide regular feedback both through formal and informal assessment. Manage day-to-day operations of the counseling program in camp, community settings, including managing the counseling and interpretation teams that provide services across CVT centers in Ethiopia. Track activities and progress to ensure that program objectives are met. Promote collaboration between staff from across the CVT-Ethiopia operation. Provide referrals for clients and any other required documentation.
- Psychotherapy: Provide psychotherapy to individuals and families impacted by torture and conflict, in order to model methods and build capacity of counselors and psychosocial counselors. Collaborate with other interdisciplinary providers as part of an integrated care model.
- Coordination: Coordinate program activities between the clinical and administrative teams. Designate and support lead counselors for program activities (e.g., psychoeducation, sensitization, training of IPs). Coordinate program activities between CVT and external partners, including representing CVT in meetings.
- Reporting: In coordination with PT, write and submit regular reports regarding clinical and training activities, including training and workshop sessions, that focus on progress achieved toward program objectives and lessons learned.
- Community Assessment: Carry out need assessments among beneficiary populations to determine appropriate mental health interventions for people who have experienced torture and/or conflict trauma.
- Program Development and Evaluation: Participate in the design of and implementation of new activities and programs as well as ongoing program evaluation. Oversee the collection of assessment data and review for accuracy and completeness.
- Community Collaboration and Capacity-building: Provide training and coordination with other organizations to better address the needs of torture and conflict survivors. Provide sensitization in communities to raise awareness about mental health and the needs of trauma and torture survivors.
- Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisors, Psychotherapist/Trainer, Clinical Program Director, Country Director, Clinical Advisor or Program Manager in the implementation of program activities.

Terms of Employment: the contract is effective from March 2022 through February 2023 depending on funding availability.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Advanced Master’s degree or pursuing in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or related field.
- At least 5 years’ experience providing psychotherapy to children, adults, families and groups.
- Understanding of and experience implementing culturally appropriate mental health interventions, including crisis response/stabilization/PFA, individual, group and community-based approaches for people who have suffered torture and conflict trauma.
- Understanding of and experience developing curriculum and providing training on topics including the effects of trauma and conflict, and self-care for mental health professionals and other humanitarian workers using interactive methodologies.
- At least two years as a Counseling Supervisor at CVT or equivalent. Experience or competencies in managing and supervising mental health staff required.
- Able to provide safe and supportive clinical supervision to improve the quality of CVT programming and support the professional development of clinical staff.
- International experience desirable.
- Skilled at providing leadership for a team; experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team desirable.
- Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing program requirements, beneficiaries need and political climate.
- Fluency in English required.
- Strong organizational and reporting skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels.
- Experience carrying out needs assessments and program evaluation desirable.
- Interest in or commitment to human rights.
- Ability to travel regularly by road to a location up to two hours away from the office.
- Zero tolerant to PSEA.

- Certification or licensure as a Psychologist or therapist, preferred
