Job Description
We are the BBC’s international charity. We are registered with the Charities and Societies Agency (CSA) of Ethiopia, with registration number 1118. We use the power of media and communication to help reduce poverty around the world. BBC Media Action has been working in Ethiopia since 2001 in the areas of media development, health, migration, resilience, women and youth empowerment, and livelihoods.
BBC Media Action Ethiopia is recruiting a creative and highly motivated host for a new youth-focused television programme.
Overall Purpose of the Job
Under the direct supervision of a Senior Content Producer Amharic, the presenter shall work with producers and the technical team to deliver compelling, engaging, and entertaining programme that provides young people with information that helps them make informed decisions about jobs, skills/training, health and wellbeing and civic participation.
Applicants will be able to demonstrate strong television presentation skills that effectively delivers the programme’s communication objectives. They will be passionate, creative, and engaging, with the ability to adapt to various production challenges. The role will be part-time, based in our Addis Ababa office with possibility of traveling to other regions (mostly Addis Ababa and Amhara region). The presenter will work as part of the production team, taking part in planning meetings, scriptwriting, and other production processes.
Safeguarding
This role will involve working with vulnerable populations, including youth and adults. As such, the role will absolutely require effective working knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures in relation to protection of children and vulnerable adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check will form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.
Key Responsibilities
REPORTS TO: Senior Content Producer Amharic
Term of contract: Fixed term for Nine Months
CONTRACT: Local terms and conditions. Only eligible for Ethiopian Nationals or those legally able to work in Ethiopia.
