Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

As part of SOS CVE effort to respond to different emergencies such as drought, flood, conflict etc, which arise from time to time in different parts of the country, the organization has secured funding from the Danish Emergency relief Fund to implement a six months emergency response project in the North Wollo zone of the Amhara region. The project will work to address the food security, emergency health and emergency cash needs of IDPs in the North Wollo zone of the Amhara region. 

Why we need you?

We are looking for a Medical Doctor who will be responsible for leading and coordinating a portfolio of emergency response interventions in SOS CVE mainly in Amhara Region for the smooth and effective implementation of the project.

Report to:- Field Project Coordinator

Number of Staff Required:- Two (2) (1 for Shewarobit and 1 for Ataye

Your role....

While working with us as a Medical Doctor, you will be responsible for

  • Develop overall plan and coordinate all health, nutrition and lifesaving activities by providing qulity health management and leadership.
  • Participate in Mobile Health and Nutrition Team to provide essential lifesaving primary health care services to displaced people and people who have no access to health services.
  • Facilitate training of staff under his/her supervision in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures and ensuring team work.
  • Provide technical support and participate in carrying out all components of MNCH packages (ANC, PNC, FP, PMTCT, labor and delivery, EPI.
  • Ensure quality of clinical procedures maintained at outreach locations
  • Work with pharmacy logistics officer to ensure medicines and medical supplies availability to MHNT and health facilities.
  • Work closely with Health and nutrition Coordinator and ensure an integrated approach for effective project implementation and monitoring.

Job Requirements

Education

  • A Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Medical Doctor) with proven experience in supervising, coaching and mentoring others

Experience

  • At least 2 years as a member of Mobile Health and Nutrition Team with NGOs.
  • Well experienced in emergency health and nutrition related activities, such as safe motherhood, child feeding, child health
  • Work experience with team of medical staff, training and technical support
  • English and local language
  • Ability and experience of work at health post and health center in rural setting 
  • Experience in quality assurance
