The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is established by the council of ministers regulation No. 301/2013 which recognize the Institute an autonomous federal government office having its own legal personality. The institute is accountable for the Federal Ministry of health.
The institute shall have the following objectives:
- Undertake research, based on national public health research agenda, on priority health and nutrition problems, and generate, absorb and disseminate scientific and technological knowledge to improve the health of the general public;
- In collaboration with the concerned bodies conduct surveillance for the early identification and detection of public health risks and prevent public health emergencies through adequate preparedness; and alert, warn and dispatch timely information during public health emergency, respond effectively and timely and ensure rapid recovery of the affected population from the impact of the public health emergency;
- Strengthen its laboratories with trained man power and technology to undertake problem solving researches provide effective response to public health emergencies, carry out referral diagnostic and analytical tests; and support the capacity building of health and food science laboratories at the national level to enable them provide quality laboratory services.
Responsibilities:
National and/or Regional MHPSS Personnel:
- Plan and cascade national and/or regional level MHPSS activities
- Coordinate and respond to MHPSS needs of people in the region and at the national level
- Communicate with zonal Health bureaus and establish local referral pathways for COVID-19 patients, IDPs and returnees and other individuals in need due to emergency.
- Coordinate/ensure activities with relevant Government authorities, international and national organizations, including standardized reporting practices related to MHPSS.
- Strengthen community-facility referral system for psychosocial problem for patents, IDPs, Individual with COVID-19 and returnees.
- Support to establish, equip and run recreation areas to people in need of psychosocial support
- Work closely with other mental health and psychosocial staff to ensure coordinated activities
- Collaborate with community and existing institutional structures to ensure protection of those with mental related problem in the region.
- Assist/lead COVID-19 response sub task force personnel with the integration of mental health and psychosocial support team in the Regional Emergency operation center (EOC)
- Collect and share reports with RHB, Public Health Institute and other relevant parties (like MOH and EPHI)
- Monitor and compile finale (project and annual plan) report and communicate with important parties
- Facilitate verity of trainings in collaboration with stakeholders
- Mobilize additional internal and external resources for the different project
- Acquire new emergency and non-emergency knowledge’s in the MHPSS area

- Master's or bachelor's degree in Psychology, psychiatry, social work,
- Minimum of ____ year experience in MHPSS related work, preferable as a MHPSS personnel or direct service provider in the context of a health facility
- Police Clearance
- Computer literate (Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications).
N.B For each of the three postings minimum work experience requirements are 10 years for degree, 8 years for masters and 6 years for PhD.
