Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to assume the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Draft and prepare documents including weekly situation reports, flash updates, and talking points.
  • Monitor, research, gather, analyze, and present information from diverse sources on humanitarian developments, disaster relief management, or emergency situations in Ethiopia for producing advocacy and information products.
  • Contribute to the preparation of various written documents, including drafts sections of annual reports, appeals for international assistance, background papers, and policy guidelines.
  • Assist in the organization of meetings, seminars, conferences, and workshops with other  agencies and partners to facilitate exchanges of professional expertise and views on specific humanitarian related subjects and serves as reporter to such events.
  • Attend and prepare detailed meetings minutes as needed.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including clusters coordinators, UN and INGO communications officer and others to seek required information for OCHA public products.
  • Support with communications and public information tasks and perform other duties as required

Job Requirement

  • Education: Advanced university degree (Masters degree), preferably in Humanitarian Affairs, Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, Policy Analysis, Development Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Economics or other Social Sciences or other relevant field

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian information management with an Advanced Degree and 4 years of progressively responsible and relevant professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree is required;
  • Excellent writing, analytical and communication skills in English is required
  • High level of familiarity with the humanitarian situation in Ethiopia is desirable
  • Knowledge of MS Excel as a tool for data analysis and presentation of summary statistics is essential; knowledge of other data analysis tool such as MS Access would be an asset.
  • Training in Research Methods would be an asset.
  • Proven abilities in data collection, compilation, analysis and reporting with ability to write in a clear and concise manner and effective oral communication is desirable
  • Proven skills in conducting and participating in meetings and reporting is desirable
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required, Knowledge of other UN languages would be an asset
