Job Summary:

The Ethiopia Poverty Reduced Sustainably in an Environment of Resilient and Vibrant Economy (PReSERVE) Collaborating, Learning, & Adapting (CLA) Specialist will support the overall CLA approach and research dissemination, under the direction and supervision of the CLA Team Lead.

PReSERVE will empower learning at the woreda-level through technical learning teams who will be formed during the refinement phase to tackle key problems and share findings across woredas. Gender and youth integration will be pushed out to the woreda level through semi-annual workshops with learning teams for gender and youth. These teams will identify problems and challenges with guidance from the GYSD and will pursue learning as laid out in the learning agenda accordingly.

The CLA Specialist will have a key role in this approach by preparing and disseminating research and learning findings in interactive formats, and facilitating reflection, learning and planning activities. The CLA Specialist will disseminate highlights of meeting minutes in written form, while including report-outs on learning in routine team meeting agendas and ensure knowledge management policies are followed for all research and learning deliverables. The CLA Specialist will travel throughout project areas to organize and facilitate in-person and virtual woreda-level and zonal learning workshops. The CLA Specialist will also provide supplemental analysis and data visualization of qualitative and quantitative research and M&E data, and track adaptive management processes and outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • The primary point of contact for learning agenda activities at the woreda level, responsible for filtering learning needs and requests to the CLA Lead and Research Manager and carrying out CLA activities independently in the field.
  • Facilitate learning events, such as reflection sessions, interactive presentations and small group discussions, roundtable discussions, and synthesizing and communicating results effectively to the CLA Lead.
  • Help to design facilitated learning activities, prepare templates and materials under the direction of the CLA Lead and Research Manager.
  • Take meeting minutes, synthesize inputs from the learning activities and channel to CLA Lead using specified formats and platforms, as needed.
  • Provide training to staff on the use of virtual collaboration and communication platforms, such as Mural, Miro, MS Whiteboard, Jamboard, etc.
  • Assist the CLA Lead and Research Manager in all internal and external CLA activities.
  • Provide assistance with data quality oversight and data analysis to the Research Manager, liaise with and provide support to analysts in the research partner institution, as requested.
  • Support and provide supplemental analysis and data visualization of qualitative and quantitative research and M&E data, prepare reports and presentations for learning events.
  • Follow KM policies and ensure all data and reports are disseminated and processed accordingly.

Minimum Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years work experience or master’s degree with 3 years work experience in Community Development, Nutrition, Livelihoods, and Household Resilience, or related field;
  • Experience implementing CLA and KM tools, approaches, and best practices, preferably in the field of nutrition, livelihoods, and resilience, on USAID awards.
  • Experience facilitating learning events, such as reflection sessions, interactive presentations and small ground discussions, roundtable discussions, and synthesizing and communicating results effectively to management.
  • Experience using and providing training to staff on the use of virtual collaboration and communication platforms, such as Mural, Miro, MS Whiteboard, Jamboard, etc.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, visualization, use, and reporting (strongly preferred).

Competencies:

  • Ability to translate complex data into easily understandable learning products.
  • Ability to analyze monitoring and evaluation and other programmatic data and synthesize findings as learning for programmatic use.
  • Proven ability to take initiative to complete assigned tasks with high quality and within tight timelines.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong facilitation and relationship management skills, including convening groups of people from diverse technical areas and backgrounds for successful CLA engagement.
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills (professional-level fluency).
