 The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) wants to recruit employees in the following vacant positions the details of which are mentioned bellow.

About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131 District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee and 5871 Kebele Red Cross committees.

ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.

 Job Summary

Under the general direction and guidance of the Human Resource, General Services and Property Administration Director, the General Service and Property Administration Manager plans, coordinates, directs and supervises the property administration and general service activities of the Society; supervises messengers, cleaners, gardener as well as the outsourced guarding staff of the Society; supervises security, gardening, compound and office cleaning as well as the maintenance and keeping inventory of long-term assets; ensure timely settlement of bills of electricity, water and telephone services in due course; ensure the timely maintenance and repair of buildings, water and heat systems, toilets, sewerage pipes, and office equipment and effectively administers goods and supplies in stores; checks that distribution of property items is carried out in accordance with pertinent policies and procedures of the Society; follows up proper maintenance and insurance coverage of the Society’s buildings, vehicles, equipment’s and other fixed assets; devises efficient classification and codification of fixed assets and other item and ensures that fixed asset and store items are properly codified, tagged and tracked; negotiates with security service, insurance and utility providers and manages the services accordingly;

Key performance Areas  

  • Plans, coordinates, directs and supervises the property administration and general service activities of the Society;
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the property administration systems used in the Society and initiates necessary improvements as appropriate; Develops and employs a systematic mechanism to exercise efficient inspection of fixed assets or property;
  • Ensures that properties in the store are orderly arranged, shelved and organized to protect against spoilage, damage and theft;
  • Ascertains that incoming property items of the Society are properly counted, measured and registered; Establish fixed assets registration systems are in place at HQ and branches and ensure its proper implementation; Give clearance to all disposable properties and ensure their proper disposal; Undertakes fixed and current asset inventory in cooperation with concerned work units.
  • Follows up the printing and supply activities of warehouse documents; Checks that distribution of property items is carried out in accordance with pertinent policies and procedures of the Society;
  • Ensures proper maintenance office equipment’s, utilities etc. for continuous use and efficient operations of the Society; Ensures proper maintenance of vehicles, etc. for continuous use and efficient operations of the Society;
  • Follows up proper maintenance and insurance coverage of the Society’s buildings, equipment’s and other fixed assets with the aim of having an efficient service in place;
  • Coordinates and supervises such activities as office maintenance, security, telephone service and sanitary activities; Negotiates with security service, insurance and utility providers and manages the services accordingly;
  • Supervises adequacy, effectiveness, efficiency and bill settlement of telephone, sanitary, security, electricity, water supply and gardening services and activities;
  • Studies, devises and introduces efficient ways of providing transport ,service to the National Head Quarters’ work units and regional branches and continuously looks for ways of improving users satisfaction level;

Job Requirements

  • Second or First degree in Management, Material Management, Business Management, Procurement & Supplies Management and 8/10 years related work experience, out of which 3/5 years in a managerial position(s)
