OWDA is a national NGO working both in Development and Humanitarian sectors in Ethiopia since 1999 to improve the resilience capacity of man-made and disaster affected people. OWDA saves the lives of affected people and enable entire communities to be resilient for disaster. With more than 300 staff in Ethiopia, our programs reached more than 5 million affected people in 2021.
Summary of position
OWDA is seeking a program manager who will provide technical leadership to strengthening resilience and improving the living conditions of agro-pastoralist communities in the Shebelle Zone, Somali Region in Ethiopia. The manager will lead the project’s team and guide the implementation of the project in the target sites. S/he will lead and mentor field staffs and work closely with technical partners. The manager will work with partners to develop implementation plans, identify and resolve challenges, and promote ongoing learning and quality improvements throughout the remainder of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides required technical support in planning, designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of resilience project activities.
- Manage the strengthening resilience and improving the living conditions of agro-pastoralist communities project in the Shebelle Zone, Somali Region.
- Monitor and follow up resilience building project activities against technical requirements and financial utilization against donor requirements.
- Follow up with accountability to respond to feedback from areas of implementation to strengthen the resilience building approach.
- Track progress the project activities, outputs and procedures and compile periodic reports to the donors.
- Support partners in preparation of monthly progress reports (both financial and activity) and compile them on monthly, quarterly, half year and annual basis.
- At her/his level, coordinate with other organizations including through participation in relevant GO/NGO forums and networks/clusters.
- Represents OWDA at relevant taskforce meetings as required.
- Oversee the implementation of the program activities as per the donor and government standards and to the required technical/professional principles.
- Lead and coordinate new proposal development for finalization to ensure quality and on-time submission
- Ensure new proposals are in line with OWDA’s strategic direction for its humanitarian and development portfolio.
- Ensure that new proposal design considers and integrates up to date technical standards and guidance for each sector
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Qualifications Required:
- BA/Master’s Degree in Livelihood, economic, agricultural economics, irrigation engineering and other related fields.
- 8 years of relevant experience with the first degree and 6 years of relevant experience plus post graduate degree.
- At least 2 years of management experience
- Demonstrated commitment to principles of gender, equity, diversity, inclusion and PSHEA (safeguarding) through previous positions or programming experience
Required Skills & Competencies
- Flexibility, accountability, dedication & responsiveness within areas of responsibility,
- Significant understanding and experience of donor requirements and donor reporting,
- interpersonal skills (team management, demonstrated communication skills, reporting, autonomy, organizational skill, staff development,
- decision making and planning, a delegation of work, management of staff, team building,
- Willingness to travel frequently to the field and immediate relocation.
- Demonstrated experience in working in hard-to-reach areas productively, working in different cultural sets ups, and knowledge of the socio-economic profiles of different regions of the country.
- Experiences in working NGO/INGO.
- Proven experience in leading the development of proposals
