Chemonics International, a Washington D.C.-based international development organization, seeks to fill the position of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) specialist for the anticipated USAID Strengthening Ethiopian Civic Voice and Agency (SECVA) project in Ethiopia. The $10-25 million, five-year project will aim to strengthen sub-national government, increase citizen engagement, and strengthen civil society oversight using locally-led, problem-driven, adaptive approaches. The GESI specialist will be responsible for the development and implementation of gender equality and inclusive development strategy, conducting GESI analysis and ensuring that its recommendations are addressed, as well as ensuring that gender and social inclusion issues are considered throughout project implementation. This position will be based in Addis. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

 Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of the comprehensive project-level gender action strategy and plan, including the creation of output and outcome targets.
  • Identify activities through which the GESI Strategy can be applied.
  • Evaluate inclusion obstacles within the context of the project and provide recommendations to leadership regarding possible training or other actions that would facilitate beneficiary buy-in at the community level.
  • In coordination with the Objective Leads, draft specific, context-driven sub-plans to address gender concerns per activity.
  • Ensure that men and women of vulnerable groups benefit equally from program activities.
  • Provide briefings on gender equality and gender analysis to grants under contract recipients.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in social services, anthropology, or another relevant field.
  • Five (5) years of experience designing, managing and implementing activities to promote gender equality and social inclusion, especially youth and disability inclusion.
  • Experience working with USAID or other donor-funded programs preferred.
  • Ability to navigate culturally sensitive terrain and maintain constructive and collaborative relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated professional excellence and strong analytical skills
  • Oral and written fluency in English required
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Ability to build consensus and coordinate with diverse actors, including government, NGOs, civil society organizations, and the private sector
