Duties and Qualifications

Overall Objective:

The Principal Risk Management and Compliance Advisor (PRMCA) at the UNHCR Representation based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia requires the Risk Management Intern to support strengthening of the focus on ensuring UNHCR operates in a secure risk environment whilst adhering to standards of compliance in areas such as personnel integrity and behaviours (mitigating risks of fraud, corruption etc.). It is envisioned that this support will facilitate five priority areas undertaken by the PRMCA as follows: Strengthening decision making in risk management; supporting integrity and ethical conduct; overseeing oversight and compliance activities; supporting mitigation of high-risk areas and working with concerned stakeholders. 

Therefore, the overall objective of the Risk Management Internship is to support the PRMCA in execution of these objectives through undertaking appropriate tasks. 

Duties and Qualifications

Scope of Assignment:

The Risk Management Intern will be responsible for various activities including but not limited to the following:

  • He/She will be involved in the day to day activities of the PRMCA in support of risk management and compliance including ensuring succinct and timely information is availed to the PRMCA to facilitate engagements with strategic partners and decision-making.
  • Participate in relevant meetings concerning risk management and compliance ensuring that key discussion points and follow up actions are explicitly highlighted.
  • Ensure proper documentation of critical information associated with risk management including updating of risk registers as necessary.
  • Work with the various Units at the Representation Office (Protection, Program, External Relations, Administration etc.) to obtain inputs for reporting.
  • Compile key findings of research work undertaken by PRMCA concerning risk management
  • Provide support in the preparation of promotional materials such as newsletters, reports and briefs with a view to ensuring that the messages communicated are consistent with the objectives of the PRMCA
  • Strengthen knowledge management role of risk management and compliance through data analysis of learning and development activities of the Operation personnel.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the PRMCA.

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications

Eligibility:

  • Be a recent graduate (within one year of completion of their studies or current & have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies) or Majoring in a Degree. Exposure to courses related to risk management is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English

Terms of the Role:

  • Working Hours: All internships are to take place in accordance with the working hours established by the UNHCR office where the internship is located (Addis Ababa) whilst remote working is acceptable.
  • The Risk Management Intern will be directly working under the supervision of the PRMCA. The Risk Management Intern¿s performance will also be assessed by the PRMCA at the end of the assignment.
