We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for EHOD -Sustainability and Foundation within External Affairs Function in Ethiopia. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Detailed Description 

Reporting to the Chief External Affairs Officer, the position holder will be responsible for sustainability, corporate responsibility and foundation strategy, activities and programmes to enable the company to achieve its commercial strategy and pro-actively mitigate risks for the commercial launch and operations of the company, contributing to Digital Ethiopia objectives of the country.

 Job Responsibilities 

  • Develop and advise the business on the evolution of Sustainability, Corporate Responsibility and Foundation policy and the best practice for the Company
  • Proactively builds Company knowledge to enhance cross functional and cross market relationships in order to influence senior internal stakeholders 
  • Responsibility and Foundation Strategy with internal senior stake holders beyond the function contributing to the commercial interests of the Company.
  • Will occasionally acts as an ambassador for Company externally, improving the external understanding of Company’s Corporate responsibility and Foundation objectives (this is not the primary focus of the role);
  • Responsibility for planning the teams’ execution of programmes across corporate behavior, Foundation and social investment
  • Ensure that the sustainability initiatives are implemented across the company
  • Coordination of the cross functional sustainability teams plans, actions, data collection and reports
  • Track and ensure that the sustainability Action plans are implemented across the business, and provide course correction as may be required
  • Positioning of Company’s sustainability portfolio locally and globally
  • Contribution and participation in sustainability fora to shape thought leadership
  • Coordination of inputs for the Annual report to society
  • Management of sustainability issues and initiatives across the business under the following banners
  • Sustainability reporting
  • Sustainability action planning
  • Sustainability team management
  • Contribution to thought leadership
  • Development and management of Company’s Social policy and Strategy

Foundation

  • Responsible for the management of the foundation programmes/projects and partnerships of the Company,
  • Provides programmatic support and develops and nurtures strategic partnerships to successfully deliver community-based projects and partnerships countrywide 
  • Manage the development of a quality and solid evidence-base of the impact and efficiency of the Foundations community investments
  • Manage and build relationships with external partners and stakeholders across a wide range of thematic and development areas. I
  • Identify and implement opportunities for Programme improvement and efficiencies within the Foundations

International Institutions/ Relations

  • To assist with pro-active external strategy and campaigns. Understand workings of the UK, European Union, US Government and Chinese Government. Understand workings and levers of International law/sanctions/trade/foreign investor protection.

Understand Telecoms products and services, platforms         

  • Understand fundamentals of telecoms, how our products and services work (e.g. IoT) to facilitate EA input to product design and strategy.
  • Economics in telecoms Economic principles behind telecommunications business models and market structure
  • Competition law  Competition law principles and strategy in telecommunications business models and markets

Job Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Sciences, Environmental studies.
  • A postgraduate degree, diploma or certificates in courses in environmental matters within a highly technical industry will be an added advantage.
  • A registered lead environmental expert with Ethiopian agencies.
  • Excellent knowledge of Environmental regulations and provisions of the EMCA 1999;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the environmental compliance sector for the manufacturing, construction or ICT sector or large-scale industry;
  • At least 3 years of process and people management experience;
  • Excellent working knowledge of ICT regulatory environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
