We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for a Specialist: M-PESA Compliance within the Legal & Risk Function. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Detailed Description

Reporting to the Executive Head of Compliance, the position holder’s role will be to develop, enhance, implement, train, advice and monitor against the compliance program to address the risk of breaching compliance requirements and regulatory requirements, including the providing advice and opinions on legal compliance and regulatory developments for compliance, implementation and applicability to mobile financial services markets

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop appropriate compliance, risk, governance policies and frameworks to support the M-PESA and financial services businesses.
  • Research, analyse, interpret and advice on regulatory, technical information and financial service laws including the writing of policies and position papers on targeted technical legal compliance issues affecting mobile financial services;
  • Monitor, train and assist on the implementation of the Legal Compliance Program, including Financial Crime Compliance, Regulatory Controls and Compliance Policies, for the mobile financial services business to ensure continuous improvement in compliance policies, processes and procedures;
  • Collate and analyse information from various sources in order to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal compliance controls across the markets including use of data analytics;
  • Regular monitoring of the risk control matrixes and risks as a result of trigger events and advisory support and challenge on risk ratings, control and design effectiveness;
  • Provide end-to-end reporting and advising on compliance related queries and developing pragmatic and compliant commercial solutions;
  • Stay up to date with developments in the legal, regulatory and governance environment and keep abreast of new policies and legislation as well as changes to existing legislation.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law or relevant Legal Degree
  • 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Higher relevant degrees will be an added advantage
  • Comprehensive and specialist knowledge of financial services legislation
  • Higher relevant specialist qualifications in e.g. risk or compliance management will be an advantage
  • Sound understanding of compliance and risk management principles
