We are pleased to announce the following vacancy for a Specialist Trade Controls and Sanctions in the Legal & Risk Function. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Detailed Description

Reporting to the Executive Head of Compliance, the position holder’s role will be to enhance, implement, and monitor a compliance programme across all business areas in the Ethiopian market to address the risk of breaching international trade control and sanctions requirements and legislation. To support in the upskilling of local internal stakeholders including including external counsel and regulators.  The role will also be responsible for reviewing exports, applying for export licences, incident management and providing advice on regulatory developments and applicability to Safaricom Ethiopia.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor, assure and report on implementation of first line activities for adherence to Group Sanctions and Trade export controls risk and control frameworks;
  • Research, analyse, interpret and advice on regulatory, technical information on trade control and sanctions laws;
  • Review and ensure continuous improvement in internal sanctions and export control compliance policies, processes and procedures;
  • Enhance the ‘sanctions and trade champion’ network, across ® raising awareness of the sanctions and trade programs and providing Safaricom Ethiopia sanctions trade controls community training on changes to current export controls regulation, sanctions regulation and related issues, including their impact on the company
  • Manage critical trade and sanctions control systems including screening tools and incident management and approval systems critical to the management of the monitoring and review procedures;
  • Provide end-to-end reporting and incident management support in an agile environment, support advising on export controls and sanctions related queries and developing pragmatic and compliant commercial solutions
  • Review exports for adherence to global trade regulations, apply for export licences and manage regulatory reporting where applicable;
  • Support the business providing advice on trade and sanctions related queries including determining impact of new legislation and guidance on appropriate mitigating measures;
  • Full accountability for the trade controls and sanctions programs working with the trade champions, sanctions champions, business and to deliver an effective and robust program.

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Law Degree or a Technology Degree ;
  • 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Higher relevant degrees will be an added advantage
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK, EU and US export controls
  • Higher relevant specialist qualifications in e.g. risk management will be an advantage
  • Sound understanding of economic sanctions and trade regulations and compliance requirements
