ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION:

Women Empowerment-Action (WE-Action) is an indigenous non- political, non- religious, non-profit, humanitarian and development oriented organization working in Ethiopia to the improvement of the social, economic, and physical well-being of the poor women in particular and the community in general. Currently the organization is operating in three regions SNNPR, Oromia and Amhara National Regional States. WE-Action envisions seeing Ethiopian women empowered. The mission of WE-Action is to create conducive environment for women to realize and utilize their potentials for sustained livelihood. WE-Action implements both development and humanitarian works in the above stated regions since from 1995. As a humanitarian agency in the country; providing emergency supports, rehabilitation and post conflict reconstruction support to the victims. WE-Action works to address both the immediate, lifesaving needs of conflict affected people in an emergency and the reconstruction needs in post conflict societies.

Scope of the position

The Emergency Program Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the program manager at Addis Ababa. S/he will play a coordination and representation role for the WE-Action’s humanitarian and emergency response Program in the respective regions. S/he will work together with other program coordinators, field office coordinators, project coordinators, program quality coordinator and represent the WE-Action on regular emergency response cluster and coordination meetings to be held in regional levels, IPs, government offices and other relevant stakeholders to ensure WE-Action’s extensive humanitarian emergency response interventions responding in the target areas are going smooth.

Detailed duties and responsibilities

  • Develop annual, quarter and monthly action plans and submits to the Program manager
  • Support the Field and project Coordinators in representing WE-Action at regional level and share key humanitarian and emergency program related updates and challenges for relevant stakeholders as per the interest of WE-Action.
  • Together with technical program staffs, contribute to ensure projects are implemented as planned and within budget duration, and in accordance with the WE-Action humanitarian and emergency response policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain a regular communication with relevant staffs.
  • Maintain a good partnership with regional government agencies and other partners in the intervention areas.
  • Participate in working groups, meetings, etc. that have a relevance to WE-Action projects.
  • Represent WE-Action at Regional Cluster meetings and other relevant coordination forums regarding the humanitarian and emergency responses
  • Contribute to the creation of a positive image and overall credibility of the WE-Action at regional levels.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key partners and decision-makers in the government, and among local authorities.
  • Ensure timely signature of project Agreements, Sub-Agreements, MOUs, and any other relevant agreements among partners and government signatories at regional level.
  • Participate in grants opening meetings to understand the concept of the respective humanitarian and emergency program.
  • Prepare and share regular progress reports for donors and government signatories based on the compliances.
  • Responsible for efficient utilization and management of emergency project resources (Financial, human and material)
  • Maintain good team spirit and work relation with staffs, funding partners and target groups.
  • Committed to apply quality and accountability standards (CHS) across program and organizational levels.
  • Design, develop and submit emergency related project concept notes and proposals by collecting relevant data and information.
  • Carry out other tasks assigned by the Program manager and EMT.

Employment Type: Full time for one year with the possibility of extension based on the performance and budget source

Job Requirements

Qualifications 

  • Education: Post graduate or First degree in Disaster Risk Management and Sustainable Development, development studies and related social sciences fields.
  • 6 years of relevant experience with the first degree or 3 years post graduate degree.
  • Significant experience in overall humanitarian and emergency response program/project management.
  • NGO experience is a plus.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Fluent English written and spoken.
  • Competent with using computers, especially Microsoft Office Word and Excel spreadsheets and Outlook.
  • Self-driven, independent, and motivated.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
