About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches and 131 District/Woreda Branches, 599 Woreda Red Cross Committee and 5871 Kebele Red Cross committees.
ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.
Key performance area
Under the supervision of the General Service and Property Administration Manager, the Light Vehicle Driver responsible for the following major functional duties.
- Checks the vehicle for oil gauges, tires, fuel and water and ensures that the vehicle is in a proper functioning order;
- Transports staff and volunteers to different ERCS operation locations; Drives passenger and light vehicles to provide transport service to staff members and guests and to transport packages and other light loads as instructed;
- Keeps the motor vehicle in good running order and carries out minor breakdown maintenances and repairs; Keeps a record of departure, arrival, mileage covered and fuel consumed and other pertinent data records as per the internal control policy and procedure in place;
- Ensures at all times that there is enough fuel in the tank and checks on the level of oil and water and does refilling as needed; ascertains that all tools and other accessories for the vehicle are handy and functional; Dusts, washes and cleans the vehicle he/she is entrusted with;
- Complies with traffic regulations and time schedules; Replaces flat tires, spare parts and gets them repaired;
- makes sure that the carloads are within permissible limit; Gets the motor vehicle washed, lubricated, inspected and maintained regularly; gets his/her driving license renewed as per regulations;
- Reports malfunctions or defects beyond his/her ability on the motor vehicle to superior for corrective actions; Assists in inspecting whether vehicles are properly repaired; gets the vehicle inspected annually;
Work Unit: Essential Drugs program
Reporting to: Administration and General Service officer
Terms of employment: permanent after probation period
Job Requirements
- TVET Level II completed or 10th grade completed with 3rd Grade Driving license or equivalent
- 4/6 years driving work experience.
