Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. About the Role

The Translation Coordinator will drive the communication of One Acre Fund Ethiopia, You will also translate critical written and spoken English into Amharic, from farmer training manuals to marketing materials and videos. Your translations will be critical to our connection with farmers. The language will at times be highly technical, and it will be important to communicate both the correct information and the intention behind it. You will report to the Training Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Translate a variety of written materials from English to Amharic, and in some cases from Amharic to English, making sure to understand the meaning and context of all materials to convert them into the second language and preserve the original meaning.
  • Produce translations for high-quality farmer training manuals and other training documents, as well as communications from Human Resources and country leadership to the entire staff.
  • on the spot translation: Provide live / spoken translation between English and Amharic at meetings, field visits, and during phone conferences. Consult with experts and other colleagues to understand specialized concepts and translate them appropriately.
  • Provide language lessons to staff members as needed.
  • Other special projects as necessary, which might include creating a dictionary of industry terms, producing marketing materials about One Acre Fund, recording audio/video content, and drafting internal communication emails.
  • You will conduct additional tasks assigned by the immediate manager like field visits and etc.

Job Requirements

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • Must be excellent and fast at typing Amharic Experience working with English-speaking international staff is a major plus
  • Fluent English and Amharic language; spoken and written
  • Must have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Workplace, and email)
  • Background in agriculture or forestry a major plus
  • 2+ years formal work experience in an organization that speaks English
  • 1+ year experience in translation or writing communication pieces
  • Must be willing to travel and make field visits for translation purposes
  • Degree or Diploma in English Language preferred.
  • English Teaching experience
